Would you consider Burroughs and Rose an "envious" staff?

From all I can gather (message boards) these will be the two assistants. Did Cohen say his staff would be the envy of college baseball or did I just read that is someone's post? I have absolutely no opinion of either besides their bio. I could see them both being brought in because Burroughs was fairly successful with far less at USM and Rose because of his ties with MS high school coaches. Since Meridian can sign guys protected or not, he would have a network with most high school coahes. When I say far less at USM, it seems they always get guys that State and OM never really recruited and make them very good baseball players. Very slow day, needed something to kick around.

"the envy of college baseball" is really "the envy of really geeky stat type college baseball people and other college baseball coaches who pay attention to this ****."

two guys that their last positions were juco jobs. Can they get it done in the SEC I don't know but I was looking in another direction. My question is why did no one from Ky follow JC.

Burroughs was not at a juco. He was at Southern Miss for a long time and then at KSU last year b/c USM's no. 1 asst is firmly entrenched there and going nowhere so he was trying to broaden his resume (all this according to USM posters on GP). He is supposed to be a really good coach.

There is a strong rumor that part of the buyout settlement included Cohen agreeing to not take any assts.

....would be Will Clark as hitting coach and Thigpen as pitching coach. Real-life assistant coaches aren't nearly as exciting as we'd like them to be, even if they're the best ever.

especially Rose. I think Burroughs might be a good hire. I am sure Coach Cohen knew he had to get some guys that were very familiar with the MS high school coaches. Most coaches in MS have read coach Polk's book and are probably shattered at the events that have unfolded in the previous week.<sarcasm> I am not saying it is as critical in baseball to be able to get the players from MS as it is in football, but there are some very good baseball players from MS and it would be nice to win some recruiting battles against OM for a change.

hell, someone told me yesterday that we were trying to get the no. 1 pitching coach in the country. My thought was "great...who the hell is that? " I didn't even know where to begin.

Recruiting is a huge part of being successful especially in baseball. When you best players are at best there for 3 years there isnt a whole lot of "development" going on. These two guys, especially Burroughs, seem to be good at that part.

My question is why did no one from Ky follow JC.

Cohen's pitching coach got UK's head job, on JC's recommendation. So, there's one. And the hitting coach...well, John Cohen is pretty much your hitting coach. Notice JC hired his new hitting coach at MSU almost immediately. It's kinda like being Steve Spurrier's QB coach.

Cohen's first priority seems to be get the recruiting network set up to infuse the roster with talent.
