I never put much thought about what is spent on an official recruiting weekend. At least not above the table...

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/texas-reportedly-spent-280-k-during-arch-mannings-official-recruitment-visit-160247522.html

Texas spent $280k legally on 9 croots the weekend Arch Manning committed. Here's the breakdown.

$21,000 on travel for the recruits and their families that included airfare for those out of state.

$1,813.74 on custom cakes and other snacks in each recruit's hotel room.

$3,359.12 on speaker rentals for photo shoots at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center.

$29,129.40 on a dinner buffet at DKR that included flatware rental, drinks and an an ice sculpture.

$11,880 on an open bar for the recruits' parents.

Another hotel buffet at 2 a.m.

$10,226 on a breakfast buffet on Saturday.

Sooner or later the IRS is going to step in and fix a lot of the wildness. Then Congress is going to step in and make some laws. 31 Trillion national debt. It is coming.

Just $2357 for a boat cruise? that seems cheap

It's a pontoon boat that gives you an hour long "tour" of the flooded ditch around Austin known as Lady Bird Lake. The highlight is seeing bats roosting under the South Congress bridge. I may or may not have not gotten any after taking a date on one of these cruises many years ago when I lived in Austin.

Those are pretty ridiculous numbers. Granted it was in Mississippi, but we had a full prime rib catered dinner for 300 people from one of the top steakhouses in the metro and it ran less than $15,000 I think. You're telling me they spent double on that for a buffet for, at most, 75-100 people?

That's over $31k per recruit for one weekend. A quick comparison, the median household income in MS is around $46k per year

And that's the reported money. No telling how much they pocketed under the table before they left. The cakes delivered to the room probably had some spending money inside. :)

Yeah, Arch Manning committing alone will probably get an extra $20 million in donations from the tsip cigar boys. As ridiculous as the bill was, it's probably a cheap date to land a couple of top recruits.

If you didn't know Texas and A&M have unlimited funds, I don't know what to tell you. This isn't even pocket change for them.

yep...and this is why Bama should be worried. Never understand why MSU fans would think adding Texas and Oklahoma was a good thing for us. Never should have added A&M either....if they ever get a really good coach, watch out...

Seems like a good time to jump in and remind everyone that the University of Texas has had 8 fewer NFL draft picks than Mississippi State over the past decade.

I'm very selfish in my reasoning for wanting Texas in the SEC...

Four Seasons on Town Lake is a great property. Crazy they are putting recruits there. About 600 a night — maybe more depending on the weekend. If they want to keep staying there better make it to the NFL

I just saw the article. Now this is where the NCAA can actually do something instead of worrying about NIL. There needs to be a budget cap for expenditures like recruiting, facilities improvements each year and other places where the schools have some actual control. This is actually a place where the playing field could be leveled.

Yes that's been true. With the Arch era beginning there and Jimbo at College Stain I think both UT and A&M will have quite a few more soon
