Wow. One of the worst eggbowl.com threads in the history of this board......

and I wasn't involved. Cowbell, Someonestoleusername, Zorak either. I would say Bruiser but I see where he chimed in at the bottom.

This influx of Scout.com posters, on both sides, must be stopped.

Actually, I did "ditto" OP4's commments a few minutes ago. But, I decided not to bother with the monkey **** throwing contest that comprised the majority of that thread.

Anyone you ever catch arguing discipline or arguing grades/intelligence of players is throwing stones in a glass house (unless they're a Vandy fan, and they don't count anyway). We all have dumb idiots that "can't read good". It's just a matter of which one finds his way to the newspapers most recently.

The ones that get me are the ones that act high and mighty as if Thug/Meathead of the Day is somehow different than the previous ones that have come along.

All it boils down to is that everyone wants to win. Hence you rationalize your own players' actions/intelligence, and you throw stones at your opponents' players.

It was based purely on homerism. You had State fans talking about allowing a player who "can't read" into the SEC, as if we are all of the sudden the flagbearers for the value of the student athlete (we had Pig friggin Prather once upon a time). You had Ole Miss fans being champion of the learning disabled. It was an exercise in homerism and hypocrisy. I only stepped in to dispute what will possibly go down as the worst Reb poster in 6 pack history (who appears to be history himself) and to point out that the Powe thing is both played out and ridiculous. If the guy has done his course work let him in. He certainly isn't the first guy with questionable academic ability to play football in the SEC nor will he be the last. Regardless, enough of Powe. I will neither lose nor gain sleep at night based on what happens with Jerrell Powe.</p>

since he did so well on the Wonderlic, I always wondered if someone took his ACT for him (seems like he was fully qualified coming out of HS).

Most likely. I'm sure Chris Strong didn't take his ACT either. I think it's pretty common practice. You just have to have a proctor that's for the take, and you can have a 5-6, 150 pound kid pretending to be a 6-8, 290 lb defensive tackle.

to be credible, you need someone like JR taking the test for the student athlete. You need a score good enough to get into college, but a score that indicates no higher level of thought.

Definitely. I think Allen Walker made this mistake. He made an 18 the first time he took the test, which I think was on his own merit. Then he took it again to help him out on the sliding scale (needing a 19 I believe), and "he" got a 24. Basically, the guy slated to take his test did too well, so it got red flagged. I'm still not sure how they got by that one. I think they found someone else to re-take it who made a lower passing score that was accepted.

Another way they get around it is to do like Strong did and wait until the last possible test to take the ACT. That way, the NCAA can't throw out your score due to the inability to say it took too big of a jump.

...but I always heard Pig took an untimed verbal exam.

Example: "2 +2 +...."

"a) 1"
"b) 3"
"C!!!) 4!!!!"
"d) 5"

I think it is fairly common practice with these LD kids.
