TFrank talking about possibly going to the portal for speed and size at this position. What do you think we need?

Do we lack burners (i.e. 4.3 40 types)? I thought that Evans and Saunders were supposedly some of this, as well as KLS.

Do we need size? seems like Meiga is the only big body WR at 6'4" and supposedly he ran a 10.6 100M so should have speed. The other WRs are all 6' and under. Looking for Chris Godwin type, but we have been recruiting the smaller WR's..

Need a tallish (6'2" or taller) WR with 4.3 - 4.4 speed and proven hands. However, other teams need the same.

I'm not sure if it's speed or toughness but our WRs didn't seem to be able to beat defenders deep downfield.

Look at the OSU/UM game yesterday. OSU attacked the LOS and left defenders in man coverage. McCarthy hit a few long passes when Michigan WRs got wide open deep. I don't see that ability in our WRs.

Maybe it is the design of the offense that isn't helping free up WRs or was it Clifford's limitations as a QB? I know he threw 4 TDs yesterday but I believe Clifford's less than stellar pocket awareness has been a limiting factor for getting through his progressions and finding the receivers @ the ideal time. He was not adept @ hitting receivers in stride. Hopefully there is improvement next year with the new starting QB.

What we saw at the Maryland game was trouble with the receivers creating separation and not running crisp routes. Of course the weather was awful that day, but that‘s what we saw.

We need to adjust recruiting the way Coach Trautwein has upgraded looking for specific measurables for HIS system We did sign a few tall receivers but they didn't stick around nor develop. Seems to me we have had a bit of bad luck with misses.

A couple things. 1) Saunders was a very highly rated recruit. I think it’s early to forget about him. Same for Evans. 2) The taller WRs we have had the past several years were inconsistent at best (Juwan, George, Shorter, etc). 3) Who needs big WRs for fade routes when you have 3 awesome TEs? 4) I can’t honestly say I know what they are looking for in the portal either. Maybe focus on OL/DL in portal? Can never have too many of those.

Interesting that Juwan Johnson did not work out for us, but remains on the New Orleans Saints. Shorter is one of the better WRs on Florida, but the jury may still be out on him. Daniel George is one that is hard to explain. Early in his career he was becoming a factor, and then just a non-factor. Malik Meiga - he must be missing something cause he has size and flat speed.

Need a little bit of everything. Sound stupid, but need playmakers. Guys that will go and get the 50-50 balls. We need an upgrade to our Wideout room like Singleton andAllen provided to the RBs. It’s that simple. In College football, you need difference makers at the skill spots.

If Parker goes, look at what’s left? There is not one guy that I am solid on. Saunders, Ivey, Johnson, I don’t care how many stars they have, they are unproven commodities. Lambert Smith showed flashes yesterday so maybe he will break out. Evans was a HS QB turned QBs d he played before the guys that came in as true receivers. What does that tell you?

Juwan Johnson was moved to TE in NO and has been productive. Shorter has been less than stellar at FL. Not bad, just still not living up to a 5 star rating. He simply isn’t what everyone expected him to be.

True. There’s nobody (yet) with game breaker talent like Hamler or Dotson. However, those guys you mentioned were all recruited hard for a reason. Maybe they breakout next year? Also, don’t forget that PSU continues to go hard after Gallagher and perhaps Prather in the portal.

Fwiw, Godwin and Lambert-Smith are both 6’1”. Same with Tre Wallace.

IDK if its size, speed or what but our current WR's save for Parker and sometimes KLS do not seem to be able to get open. Whether its being chucked at the line or running their routes. I did not see many open WR's Sat. evening.
I think Stubblefield needs to step it up, either recruiting or teaching.

1 thing I would like to see is if PSU throwing the deep ball more regularly changes next year. I was wondering if JF/MY didn't have the confidence in Cliffords arm strength to throw the deep ball (posts/outs) To me everywhere MY has been that has been a staple in the offense. Allar has the arm to throw those types of patterns and more of a air raid offense. So to me we will see if it was a scheme/qb thing or our wr's don't have the speed we thought getting deep and open.

Seems a lot of positions are lacking yet all I keep hearing is James is a great recruiter. Sorry folks James is positive and nice guy. But is average at most everything. I don’t see elite or great at anything.

Possession guy. The TEs seem to be filling the role now especially since Parker Washington has been out. Will hurt not having him in the bowl game.

Some truth in that. However, this year's team clearly lacked a deep threat like Dotson.

PSU is missing game breaking, difference making, speed like DeSean Jackson and K.J. Hamler. They have too many slow possession type receivers. Also, special teams could use an elusive and reliable punt return and kick return guy. A Kevin Baugh or A.J. Wallace clone would be helpful.

So much of our problem is the scheme. The vast majority of our deep throws are throws with our wideouts running fly patterns a yard or two from the sideline.

While there has been more diversification this year over last year, anyone watching other games sees passing attacks leap years ahead of ours. Other teams playing chess while we play checkers.

Then you missed his push-ups during the maryland game.
