From my reading of the article (and the opinion), they reduced the punitive damages from $2.5 billion to $507.5 million, so that the total verdict is essentially double the compensatory damages.

In addition, Exxon spent $2.1 billion cleaning up the mess, spent another $900 million to settle civil actions by Alaska and the United States, and paid another $303 million in private payments.

you know better...everyone knows the oil companies are evil profit hording ecological killers. Exxon should have been forced out of business after the Valdez, much less now. Damn evil capitalist corporations. The gov't should slap them with massive windfall profits taxes to punish them for their evil ways.
