There are plenty of players to go around, and there is a limit to how many players you can have on the roster, and they all can’t be NIL millionaires. Even the big boys can’t pay everyone. SC is what, a top 30 program nationally? Plenty of programs in the same boat. Focus on the coaching, and focus on recruiting the portal in this new era. It will all wash out in the end.

Right 8 wins next year is the minimum acceptable
If you really demand we win 8 games next year, apparently you haven't seen our opponents. It would be great if we do but nobody should expect that.
I am not even sure who this thread is criticizing, but I assume it’s me, so I’m offended.
Every year we make that excuse. It’s old. When you bad you always have a tough schedule. Missouri had a similar schedule to ours and won 10 games this year. We ought to be as good as Missouri right?

8 wins? That’s very, very optimistic. I don’t see it. Portal gets will be key to getting to 6 wins, much less 8. Sellers will have to turn out to be a real baller’ to get us to 6 wins plus. Then there’s the d-line to consider. I’d like to be optimistic but it’s way too early. I hate the current state of college football. I’d watch the pros but I don’t like it any better. This new order is ridiculous and makes things untenable for us, and all the mid-tier teams in all the conferences. I just hope Beamer can navigate this landscape better than most. It’s a big ask, just as it is for all mid-tier teams. Everyone is looking to score in the portal and there are only so many top players to go around. Glad I don’t have his job.

There is not a coach in America that could get us to 8 wins next year.
There is potential for the future and if there aren't improvements hls seat will be warm.

Look, I'm staking out an interchangeable default position. If he wins 10 next year, I'll adjust to, "Win eight, THEN hit the gate" for the following year.
Missouri is a better program than we are historically and has the record to prove it. They have a winning tradition for whatever reason. They have competed pretty well in their SEC days. That said I don’t think there is a coach in the SEC who could take our roster and win the minimum number of 8 games you have set.
The difference is coaching. They win more games than us with similar talent and schedule.
I think his essential point, though, is that we should be able to match Missouri. I'm as realistic as anyone and not pie-in-the-sky, but I truly believe this.

We aren’t listed in the top 25 in any of the major polls. I can’t find who is ranked what outside of that. But I doubt we are #26 to #30.

It no longer matters who you had on your roster the previous year. Coaches need to become adept at using the portal every year to build a complete team. The only way you can keep it together is to win consistently.
If we cant work the portal, we need to find someone that can. There is no excuse for fielding a bad team anymore if you ask me. Seven wins should be a given. Eight or more should be the norm. Granted we have a tough schedule next year. We wont be the only ones doing some rebuilding though. This is a yearly thing now and we ain't alone. One year turnarounds aren't as out of reach as they used to be and because of that, expectations should be high. Always
For football, a one year turnaround through the portal is not a reality. You could catch lightning in a bottle but not a reality.
We will see...or maybe not, depends on the tools at our disposal. I do agree that it will take a lot more than just the portal... like good coaching, but putting experience on the field just got easier and from what I have seen so far. There is far better talent at some of these smaller schools than a lot of people thought. Rebuilding should not be that big a deal if a coach is playing his cards right. I still believe expectations should be high... even after a bad year. If I'm wrong the worse that will happen is I get disappointed. Pretty sure I can live with that.
