In terms of personal favorites.

Emory (if only for the last 5 games of the 1980 regular season)
Dan (if only for the first 6 games of 2014 and the Gator Bowl win over Michigan)
Ron the FIRST (Thunder and Lightning years)
Jackie (the SEC Championship game and some really fun 17n wins)
Richard (the final four run)

But BABE and McKEEN are still the TOP when it comes to greater and sustained success.

The Pirate (based on previous accomplishments)

I'm sure there's a golf or javelin coach you can put in there. Maybe Bruce Ariens based on accomplishments.

I don't know if this is sport specific, but here it goes.

Football only:
1. Jackie Sherrill
2. Allyn McKeen
3. Dan Mullen
4. Bob Tyler
5. Darrell Royal or Emory Bellard

All other sports combination:
1. Babe McCarthy
2. Ron Polk
3. Vic Schaefer
4. Jackie Sherrill
5. Allyn McKeen

Feel free to butcher this up LOL

Not a lot to argue about on your list, but I wouldn't put Darrell Royal there on his Mississippi State time alone. He was only here for 2 seasons and had 12-8 overall record, a .500 record in the SEC, and wasn't substantially better than the season immediately before and immediately after.

Now, as far as lifetime achievements of coaches that ever coached at State, he'd have to be up there.

I understand that completely about his Mississippi State time. He just wasn't here long enough, but when you factor in his lifetime achievements he's up there. I feel like if we would have kept him longer, then we would have seen the fruits of his labor at Mississippi State and not elsewhere.

Food for thought...

McCarthy's last two seasons at State, just following the 1963 Season of Change, were 9-17 and 10-16. After a terrible season at GW, he did have some nice teams in the ABA before passing too young at 51.

Sherrill, as most here will remember, finished his State tenure with 3-8, 3-9, 2-10 records winning 3 SEC games over those seasons and leaving the program in very rough shape.

Al Schmidt deserves mention here. Track coach for 25 years.

Won two Natty's at FSU with the women's team before State.

Coached 39 All Americans, 35 SEC Champs and 4 National Champions at State. And is apparently a really good dude.

In no order:

Ron Polk
Jackie Sherrill
Dan Mullen
Vic Schaefer
John Cohen (yall need to separate your minds between Cohen the coach and Cohen the AD)
No doubt the best bunting coach we ever had, beyond that he sucked.
