After running a blistering 4.38 second time in the 40-yard dash at an Alabama camp early in June, Calera (Ala.) wide receiver became a target for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

After not being recruited by Alabama, Prentice had put his name on the map, earned an offer, and has now committed to the in-state school he grew up a fan of.

“It is like a dream,” Prentice said about his commitment to Alabama. “I have dreamed about playing for Alabama my whole life. I remember screaming when I got the offer, and now I am committed, so it is a great feeling.”

The 5-foot-10, 171 pound wide receiver camped at Alabama twice in June. He impressed both times and drew praise from the head coach.

“Coach Saban told me he loved my speed and that I could ball. Hearing that from him was like a dream.”

Before the Alabama offer July 1, Prentice had committed to Maryland. That commitment lasted a couple of weeks and he backed off that pledge July 13.

Prentice will go to Alabama as a slot receiver. As a junior he had 711 yards receiving on 41 catches, and scored nine touchdowns. He is all about quickness, change of direction and the ability to make plays in space.

Entering June, Prentice was not hearing from Alabama. He camped there and put his name on the map. After showcasing his speed, Alabama invited him back to get a deeper evaluation. Prentice impressed again. The offer went out, he followed his heart, and he is now committed to the reigning national champions.

“It happened fast for sure,” said Prentice. “I still can’t believe it. I am committed to the school I dreamed about going to growing up. It is exciting.”
