Shedeur Sanders gives definitive answer on Deion Sanders’ future as Colorado coach
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders gave a clear answer on whether his father, Deion Sanders, will remain the Buffaloes coach in 2025. It has been rumored that Deion Sanders may be a candidate for NFL jobs, with former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin he would take the job if the team drafted his son.
However, the coach has stated that he is “happy where I am” in Boulder and seemed to dismiss the buzz. Shedeur Sanders also weighed in on the speculation during a recent episode of his podcast, 2Legendary.
“Yeah, dad is staying for sure,” he said.
Of course, things can change between now and the end of the season, but that should put Colorado fans at ease. The Buffaloes still have this year to focus on for now as they currently sit in a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12 with a chance to make the conference championship game.
It’s easy to see why Deion Sanders is a popular name for many coaching vacancies. He arrived at Colorado in 2023 after three seasons at Jackson State in the FCS and done a complete 180 for the program in just two years.
The Buffaloes won only one game in the season before Deion Sanders took over and improved to 4-8 in his inaugural season. This year, they have doubled that total already for their most since 2016.

The coach will likely have many suitors in the offseason, but refused to add fuel to the current rumors.
“I am happy where I am, man. I’m good. I got a kickstand down,” Sanders said. “You know what a kickstand is? A lot of people in here at an age they don’t know what a kickstand is. That means I’m resting, I’m good, I’m happy. I’m excited, I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do. Next question.”
That combined with what Shedeur said, and all signs point to Deion Sanders being back at Colorado in 2025.
