Kirby Smart addresses Georgia's case for College Football Playoff
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs escaped Friday’s clash with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by the skin of their teeth, and their dreams of the College Football Playoff remain alive and well.
It certainly wasn’t easy, but Georgia got the job done against their in-state rival. Afterwards, Smart was asked about what the performance means for the Bulldogs’ Playoff resume, but it’s evident he’s more focused on next weekend’s SEC Championship Game than anything.
“I don’t get into that. I’m not biting on that. I’m worried about the SEC Championship. That’s for somebody else to decide,” Smart said, responding to a question regarding Georgia’s resume for the College Football Playoff, and whether the Bulldogs have done enough. “I just — I’m proud of our guys. Proud of the fight, and the grit, and the toughness. That’s really my focus.
“I mean, just keep getting better, and don’t ride the wave of emotion. If things wouldn’t have gone our way on one of those plays tonight, we would be playing next week, for our lives, to go into the Playoff. Our opportunity is in front of us. We’ve got to go out and play well, and play a good team.”

Although their win in Week 14 left a bit to be desired, Georgia will be looking to clinch their Playoff spot and convince the rest of the college football world they’re still the kings with a dominating performance in the SEC Championship Game. They’ll either face Texas or Texas A&M in Atlanta next weekend.
Regardless of the opponent, it’ll be paramount for Georgia to get the job done. While they’re likely in no matter what, you can never be too sure, and Smart would certainly rather his team control their own destiny as it pertains to the 12-team Playoff, unlike last season.
Kirby Smart and his squad almost slipped up on Friday evening, but all of their goals remain ahead of them. We’re willing to bet the Bulldogs leader will have his team roaring when the time comes next Saturday.
