Kim Mulkey makes college basketball history with weekend win
Kim Mulkey is one of the most successful coaches in women’s college basketball history. A veteran head coach that’s been around the game for a long time, Mulkey built Baylor into a powerhouse program and is now at LSU putting her print on the Lady Tigers.
In 21 total seasons at Baylor from 2000-2021, Mulkey guided the Lady Bears to a 632-104 overall record with three national championships. Her Baylor teams won 20 or more games in each of her 21 seasons, and Mulkey’s 2011-12 squad went a perfect 40-0.
After a highly successful run at Baylor, Mulkey decided to head to the SEC and take over LSU’s program beginning this season – and she’s already having success at her new school. Through their first 22 games, the Lady Tigers are 18-4 overall with a 6-3 mark in SEC play.
While Mulkey came to LSU with 632 career wins under her belt, the No. 12 ranked Lady Tigers’ victory over Kentucky on Sunday gave her career win No. 650 – making her the fastest coach in men’s or women’s Division I basketball history to reach 650 career wins.
Mulkey and LSU return to action Monday, Feb. 7 on the road at Ole Miss, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.

“Sneaky good TCU is about to beat LSU at home,” tweeted Davis. “That will put the Frogs above .500 in the Big 12 and very much in the hunt for an NCAA bid.”
Leading the way was guard Mike Miles, putting 19 points on LSU to go with eight rebounds. Additionally, TCU forward Chuck O’Bannon Jr. and Damion Baugh helped down the stretch, scoring 19 and 12 points respectively.
On the other hand, LSU played their hearts out — four of their five starters scored in double-figures. Forward Tari Eason scored 16 points, while forward Darius Days (14 points), guard Brandon Murray (10 points) and guard Eric Gaines (14 points) followed suit.
LSU was attempting to rebuild their resume after some tough SEC losses, but TCU had other ideas. After a blowout loss to Texas quelled their momentum, the Horned Frogs came back and found victory over the Tigers.
