Miami Hurricanes LB Adarius Hayes hospitalized after car crash with multiple fatalities

According to Andy Slater, Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was involved in a car crash on Saturday in Tampa, FL. Two casualties have reportedly taken place but neither of them is Hayes. Slater added that the Hurricanes player is currently in the hospital.
“JUST IN: Miami Hurricanes linebacker Adarius Hayes was involved in a crash with fatalities today near Tampa, FL,” Slater said via X. “Hayes is not one of the deceased individuals, the Largo police department tells me, but he is hospitalized. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, I’m told.”
Hayes is entering his second season of college football, playing a role for Miami during the 2024 season. He appeared in 12 games and most of his action was on the special teams unit. However, his importance on the defensive end grew as the year went along.
In those 12 games, Hayes recorded four total tackles. The highlight of his freshman campaign might have come against Florida A&M in the season opener against Florida A&M where he got an interception. A pass breakup and two passes defended are on the stat sheet as well.
Hayes played high school football at Largo (FL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 175 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Getting Hayes into the recruiting class was a big win for Miami at the time. He was previously committed to play for an in-state rival, the Florida Gators. Head coach Mario Cristobal pulled off the flip, though, and brought one of the Sunshine State’s best players into the program.
“Physical inside linebacker at his best as a downhill run stopper,” On3’s Cody Bellaire said in a scouting report. “Has a taller stature at around 6-foot-3 and has added considerable mass over his high school career. Has unverified weight, but looks to be closer to the 220 mark than his previous verified 210 pounds. A prolific tackler, racking up over 375 stops in his high school career. Quick processor and shows a quick trigger when moving downhill.
“Seeks out contact and looks to detonate on defenders. More than willing to throw his body around. Stops ball carriers in their tracks when they meet in the hole. Plays with a level of violence. Also effective as a blitzer. Has some tightness in his hips and can improve his overall athleticism and ability to play in space. Lacks verified athletic markers. Older for the cycle, turning 19 years-old in November of his senior year.”
