Sherrone Moore is early in his tenure as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, one of the biggest football brands on the planet. And with such a big fan base comes major expectations.

But with Michigan currently sitting at 6-5 overall coming off their national championship run last season, some of the fan base is already turning up the heat on the head man at the helm.

Recently on the Triple Option podcast, Wolverine legend Charles Woodson offered up his thoughts on Moore and thinks Michigan fans and boosters need to have patience.

“First of all, for Sherrone, I was golfing I think maybe a week and a half ago and one of the people that I was golfing with, first question he asked me, ‘Hey, you guys gonna fire the coach?’ I’m like, ‘What?’ What are we talking about?” Woodson asked.

“Like, why would we even be considering firing the coach?” Woodson continued. “I mean, considering the circumstances, coming back or him taking over a team that lost 18 of his 22 starters, to either get drafted or be on an NFL team as a free agent in some at some degree.”

Woodson, of course, is well aware that the Wolverines just flipped the most coveted quarterback in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall player in 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings, flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan earlier this week.

“This was going to be a tough job for him coming in regardless of what the circumstances were,” Woodson continued. “So, you got to give him a chance, man, you know what I mean? Give him a chance to be a recruiter, as the head coach. You know, we just had a big win getting a number one player in terms of quarterback.

“So, I mean, you guys have watched the games all year. You’ve seen how we’ve looked at, you know, the quarterback position,” the Michigan legend continued. “We know that when you look at the top teams right now, they got guys that are at the helm distributing the football who are really good players.”

Michigan’s struggles at the quarterback position have been blatantly obvious this year. And that’s precisely why they worked so hard to go out and get the top quarterback in America.

“You got to get that position solidified. We’ve got injuries, Will Johnson hasn’t played sometimes, not going to play this week I believe, I just read. So, there’s a lot he has to deal with,” Woodson explained. “(The) offensive line, most of those guys are gone on to play at the next level. So now, coach, you know, you talk about it a lot. You talk about a position group on the field that really has to have that continuity. It’s that offensive line.”

He once again preached patience for the Wolverine fan base.

“And so, those guys have to grow within that position as well. Sherrone just needs a little time, like I said, we got this new quarterback coming in,” the Michigan legend finished. “So, that’ll bring some energy to the program and then just continue to build on, his smash mentality. You know, he always talks about smash, and I know that he’s a good coach. And I think he’ll get this thing turned around for sure.”

Michigan and Ohio State prepare to square off this Saturday in The Game, one of the biggest rivalries in all of college athletics. Kickoff is set for noon EST and the game will be nationally televised on FOX from Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
