It meant a ton for Juwan Howard to have his former Michigan teammates, the other members of the beloved Fab Five, in attendance for the Wolverines’ win over Ohio State.

Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson joined the party as the Wolverines took care of the Buckeyes. Afterwards, Howard elaborated on what it meant to have his former teammates in attendance.

“I’m still on an emotional high,” Howard said. “Just to see my brothers show up, on a day that’s so special, when you need them the most. What I mean by needing them the most is, when you have a team that’s been fighting so hard like our team, and coming up short game after game, you can sometimes have a doubt that creeps up in your mind, because you have those human emotions. But to see a group of brothers that have put on that jersey before, who’ve been through tough times. To walk in that door and uplift our group, and inspire them the way they inspired them today with their presence, it was special to see. It was special to be a part of.

“Not discrediting our fans. Our fans have been with us through thick and thin. Really appreciate Maize Rage for being able to bring the energy like they did. So overall, collectively, it was cool. Nice to see Chris, Jaylen, Jimmy and Ray, step in the Crisler for old times sake.”

It hasn’t been an easy season for Michigan so far, but the Fab Five joining the fray to see the Wolverines in action may be the spark the team needed. At the moment, Michigan can use all the help they can get, as they deal with the suspension of guard Dug McDaniel, as he’ll be out for the next six road games.

McDaniel is the team’s leader in scoring and assists and 17.8 points and 5.1 assists per game. He’s also averaging 4.1 rebounds and a steal while shooting 44.2% from the field and 38.2% from three. According to Howard, it’s an academic suspension, and something he’s hoping McDaniel rectifies real soon.

“Well, like we said before, this is road games where he will not be able to attend. With that, we will see how the progression is with him academically,” said Howard. “We’ll see improvement and we’ll review it back in the middle to end of February. From there, we’ll see what’s next.”

Regardless, perhaps the Fab Five will continue to give Michigan some winning vibes moving forward, as we inch closer and closer to March Madness. We know the Wolverines want to play a part.
