Ryan Day visits 5-star Sonny Styles, confirming Styles has reclassified
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs went to Pickerington (Ohio) Pickerington Central’s basketball game Friday night to visit five-star athlete Sonny Styles.
Styles, who scored seven points in Pickerington Central’s 49-28 victory over Grove City (Ohio) Central Crossing, is a Buckeyes commit.
The visit also confirms that Styles has officially reclassified to the 2022 recruiting class from the 2023 cycle. Day and Coombs would not have been able to meet with Styles if he was still in the 2023 class.
The news about Styles reclassifying was first announced earlier in the week.
Sonny Styles is the No. 7 prospect in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 1 athlete and the No. 1 prospect in Ohio.
He is ranked even higher by On3, which has him as the No. 3 overall player in the country behind only New Orleans Isidore Newman Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Arch Manning and Los Alamitos (Calif.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Malachi Nelson.

Where he fits into the 2022 rankings remains to be seen. But his reclassification will be another huge addition to Ohio State’s No. 4 ranked recruiting class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.
Sonny Styles is Ohio State’s second 5-star recruit to reclassify in recent months
This is the second straight recruiting cycle where Ohio State has a five-star prospect reclassifying up a year.
Sonny Styles follows five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers, who reclassified from the 2022 class to the 2021 class in August to take advantage of NIL opportunities at Ohio State.
Ewers played just a few snaps this season. He entered the transfer portal last week and is considering Texas and Texas Tech as potential landing spots. On3’s Gerry Hamilton believes one school has jumped to the front of the line.
