Oklahoma expected to hire Texas Tech receivers coach Emmett Jones to same position
The Oklahoma Sooners are hiring Texas Tech’s wide receivers coach, Emmett Jones, to the same position, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.
Jones was a high school football coach in Texas before he made the jump to coaching at the college level. Current Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire, a former high school coach himself, brought Jones on to be the team’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.
This was Emmett Jones’ second stint with the Red Raiders, a school he spent time at as a player. He also coached at Kansas. So, he has experience in the conference.

Oklahoma will eventually be moving on to the SEC, but for now, it helps to have someone with experience in the Big 12 and high school connections in the state of Texas.
This season, Texas Tech went 8-5 with a win in the Texas Bowl over Ole Miss. The passing attack was a big part of that. The Red Raiders finished 2022 as the 12th best team in the country in terms of passing offense, having averaged 304.6 yards per game.
