Cade McNamara was an On3 Consensus four-star prospect coming out of Reno (Nevada) Damonte Rach High School in the 2019 recruiting class. He originally signed with the Michigan Wolverines over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Notre Dame and others. McNamara helped lead Michigan to the CFP in 2021 as the Wolverines’ starting quarterback. He threw for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns. However, he lost the starting job to J.J. McCarthy in 2022 and eventually underwent season-ending surgery for a leg injury In his career at Michigan, McNamara played in 21 games, completing 63.1% of his passes and throwing for more than 3000 yards. He threw 21 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Shortly after entering the Transfer Portal, McNamara announced he was transferring to Iowa.
