Personal Life
UNC coach Mack Brown has been around some great quarterbacks in his career, so it speaks volumes when he gushes about Drake Maye. “Drake’s experienced and poised beyond his years,” Brown said. “He plays his first game at home and throws five touchdowns. Then he goes on the road in a tough environment, and he never changes who he is. He’s 6-5. He’s 220. He can run. He’s very accurate. He’s a decision-maker. The biggest thing is he’s a good decision-maker, and he’s very accurate. It reminds me a lot of Colt McCoy. Colt was so accurate in practice that the ball never hit the ground and it’s very, very similar with Drake.” Coming out of high school, Maye was ranked by On3 as the No. 5 quarterback coming out of Charlotte Myers Park in the Class of 2021. During his high school career, Maye tallied 6,713 yards and 86 touchdowns on 398-of-581 (68.5%) passing over two seasons. He had a very successful career at UNC, earning ACC honors in 2023 and 2022. Maye finished his Tar Heel career with 8,018 yards passing and 63 touchdowns with only 16 interceptions.
