Productive passer with a well-rounded skill set. Physically developed and filled out, checking in at 6-foot-3.5 and around 225 pounds with a 10-inch hand. Shows a good arm in camp settings and on Friday nights. Excels in the short and intermediate passing game. Able to quickly read defenders’ leverage and deliver accurate passes. Strong in the RPO game. Well-schooled and capable of going through multiple progressions.. Tests as a very strong athlete in the combine setting. Grew around two inches over the course of his junior year. Plays for a top high school program in Louisiana and helped his team to a state title as a junior. Productive and efficient over the course of the season, though his efficiency dipped a bit in the playoffs. Showed the ability to pick up yards with his legs on scrambles and broken plays. Eli Holstein earned his first Division I offer – from Ed Orgeron’s staff at LSU – before he played a down of varsity football. As a junior, he threw for 3,228 yards, 30 touchdowns and rushed for an additional 523 yards and 14 scores on the ground. That effort earned him Louisiana Class 5A all-state honors. Both of Holstein’s parents attended LSU and his father, Scott, played football for the Tigers. His brother, Caleb, won a state championship as a quarterback at St. Thomas More before graduating and signing with Louisiana Tech in 2020.
