Personal Life
In an era where quarterbacks transfer from school to school because they don't immediately start, Garrett Nussmeier is a rarity. The former four-star recruit from Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus High School bided his time behind Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels to finally emerge as the LSU starter ahead of the 2024 season. "Having a quarterback that has been in the system for the last couple of years… that knows what it looks like, what it's like to be in an SEC battle, and has played in a game against a pretty darn good defense, those things make you feel a little bit more at ease going," LSU coach Brian Kelly said. "I see a lot of comparisons between Garrett and Jayden. There is certainly common traits. I think the first one certainly, if we’re talking outside of the skill factor, right, the ability to throw the football. If you talk about just from the neck up, the ability to certainly translate... That was one of Jayden Daniels’ best assets. You could watch it, talk about it, he could recite it. You could be in a meeting and you would walk out of that meeting and go, amazing. I see so much of that with Garrett, too."
