Johntay Cook II is carrying on the tradition of star offensive playmakers at DeSoto, one of the top programs year in and year out in the Lone Star State. During his sophomore and junior seasons, Cook had more than 1,496 receiving and 28 touchdowns. He’s also a special teams star and averages around 15 yards every time he touches the ball. DeSoto coach Claude Mathis said Cook’s success comes as no surprise because he is a great route runner and a dedicated watcher of film. “He's one of those guys you enjoy while you have him,” Mathis said. “He can do so many things for us. He causes mismatches. He had a 99-yard touchdown pass. He has one of the quickest releases off the line of scrimmage. He's gotten faster because of track as well.” Cook loves to read and plans on majoring in either business or broadcasting. His favorite food is Chick-fil-A. His parents are Johntay Cook and Tracie Cook.

Reminds Us Of
Johntay Cook's well-rounded game, large catch radius at his size and savvy in getting open against zone defenses reminds us of Nelson Agholor. Cook is more of a pure receiver prospect than Agholor, who was a two-way player at the high school level.
