Scouting Journals for Mykel Williams

Mykel Williams Scouting Summary

Charles Power

10/26/21

High upside defensive lineman who is already an outstanding player at the high school level. Has a large frame with plus length (34-inch arms) and large hands (10 inches). Looks lean while carrying 265 pounds. Would not be surprising to see him carry 300 pounds with ease after time in a college strength program. A highly productive and disruptive player in high school for several seasons. Has advanced pass rush ability for a larger prospect. Uses first-step quickness to tee off against opposing offensive tackles. Pairs his high-end quickness with the length and a strong effort level to finish plays behind the line of scrimmage at a high rate. Among the more productive defensive linemen or EDGE prospects in 2022, posting double-digit sacks and at least 17 tackles for loss in all three varsity seasons. Is a younger prospect for the class and won’t turn 18 until the summer of 2022.

Mykel Williams turns in dominant week at All-American Bowl, earning On3 MVP honors

Mykel Williams came to the All-American Bowl as the No. 4 overall prospect in the On300. He might’ve out-played that lofty ranking at the All-American Bowl. The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder was dominant from start to finish. Williams has a complete skill set as an interior pass rusher. He combines high-end first-step quickness and plus length with quick hands, a catalog of pass rush moves and a motor that runs hot. William’s 1-on-1 session during Thursday’s joint practice may be the most dominant stretch we saw from a prospect in either national all-star game. Williams’ fantastic week carried over to Saturday’s game. He lived in the backfield all afternoon, showing his ability as an interior pass rusher while also playing some on the edge. Williams finished with several plays behind the line of scrimmage, including a sack against his future Georgia teammate, Earnest Greene. In all, the five-star’s showing was among the best we’ve seen from a defensive lineman in this setting in a few years.

Mykel Williams impresses in senior debut

8/27/21

Mykel Williams looked the part of a five-star and top-10 prospect in his senior season debut against Americus-Sumter. The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder showed a quick get-off and natural pass-rush skills. We also saw some unique closing speed at his size in tracking down plays from the backside. We tallied at least three sacks and seven tackles for loss for Williams.

Mykel Williams rated as a 5-star in initial On300

Williams is a large-framed defensive lineman capable of creating disruption from multiple spots on the front. He had a big junior season at Columbus (Ga.) Hardaway with 17 sacks and 19 more tackles for loss. Williams often lines up to rush from a two-point stance and shows the ability to dip and bend around the edge. The pass rush ability is particularly impressive given Williams’ frame. He’s 6-foot-4.5 and 265 pounds and has been measured with 35-inch arms and 10.25-inch hands.
