Vernell Brown III Scouting Summary

Charles Power

7/23/24

Skilled wideout with arguably the best after catch ability in the cycle. Measured at 5-foot-10.5, 173 pounds at the On3 Elite Series prior to his senior year. Has a 29.75 inch arm and 9-inch hand. Registers as a plus athlete in track and field, running a personal best of 10.91 seconds in the 100 meters as a junior. Owns a well-rounded skill set with the ability to threaten all three levels of the field. Very loose and fluid in his movements. Has excellent lower body flexibility. Stacks corners off the line of scrimmage. A skilled route-runner with considerable shake. Shows the ability to separate vertically. Truly dynamic with the ball in his hands. Has phenomenal vision in the open field. Slippery and shows high-level contact balance. Confident and assertive in space. Transfers over to the return game, where he has a case as the best return man in the cycle. Shows strong ball skills for a smaller wideout. Plucks the ball with his fingertips and shows flashes of high-point ability. Great body control. Leaves his feet to make diving grabs. Turned in a strong junior season, with 1,363 receiving yards (19.4 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns to go with 4 touchdowns on returns. Highly competitive in every setting. A three-phase playmaker, also playing on defense. Has a smaller frame that could limit his catch radius and play strength as the competition level increases. Runs well, but can continue adding to his top gear to maximize his skill set. A high floor prospect who likely projects as a slot first wideout with the potential to develop into a versatile option capable of lining up all over the formation.

Vernell Brown III a Top Performer at OT7 Dallas

Charles Power

4/14/24

Vernell Brown was arguably the most consistent playmaker throughout OT7 Dallas. You could call him all sorts of names after the performance he put together this weekend. Chain mover, red zone weapon, ankle breaker, route runner… but the most common name you heard along the sidelines was DUDE. Vernell Brown is just that, a DUDE. His ability to burst off the line of scrimmage and separate at the top of his routes is phenomenal. Plus, he’s a natural pass catcher and ball tracker with plus top-end speed that allows him to be a home run threat on every snap. That combined with his YAC ability after the catch makes him a complete weapon at the receiver position. It felt like every time you heard, ‘Touchdown SFE!’ over the loudspeaker, Vernell Brown was dancing in the endzone with the ball in his hand. In a star-studded group of receivers at Weekend 2 of OT7, Brown was the star that shined the brightest.
