Wednesday, May 7
Game 1: No. 8 Georgia Tech def. No. 9 California, 8-0 (F/5)
Georgia Tech made it their mission to get the win on Wednesday, and they did so in dominant fashion. The Yellow Jackets scored eight runs on eight hits, while California couldn’t muster any offense, and their manager Chelsea Spencer was ejected. Addison Leschber put the exclamation point on the dub with a late homer, and now Georgia Tech will advance to play top-seeded Florida State on Thursday.
Game 2: No. 5 Stanford def. No. 12 Pitt, 9-2
Pitt led twice against Stanford, but Allie Clements clubbed a two-run homer to give the Cardinals the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning, and they never looked back. Stanford would shut down the Panthers’ lineup over the rest of their showdown, advancing to Thursday’s slate due to a seven-run win over Pittsburgh. Duke will await the Cardinal in what should be a doozy of a game.
Game 3: No. 7 Virginia def. No. 10 Louisville, 3-2
It came down to the bottom of the seventh inning, but Virginia was able to complete the comeback and get an SEC tournament victory. Kelly Ayers came through with a walk-off double to send UVA to the 3-2 victory and into the quarterfinals. It also marks the Cavaliers’ first tournament win since 2011.
Game 4: No. 6 North Carolina def. No. 11 Notre Dame, 2-0
North Carolina scored two runs in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game against Notre Dame, and that proved to be all the Tar Heels needed. UNC came away with the 2-0 win over the Fighting Irish in the first round of the ACC softball tournament and will now advance to take on Virginia Tech.
Thursday, May 8
Game 5: No. 1 Florida State def. No. 8 Georgia Tech, 8-0 (F/6)
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets knew that they’d need to keep the Florida State Seminoles’ bats in check. Early, they were able to do just that, until the bats came alive in the third inning with back-to-back home runs for Jahni Kerr and Katie Dack. The Yellow Jackets, needing to come back, would threaten with some small ball in the fifth, but after nothing came of it, Florida State blew things open in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-0. Another run in the bottom of the sixth ended it right there, and Florida State moved on.

Game 6: No. 4 Duke def. No. 5 Stanford — 7-0
It was a pitching duel early between Duke and Stanford on Thursday afternoon. The Blue Devils added a couple of runs against a rotation of pitchers for the Cardinal, though, and that set them up for the fifth inning when Kairi Rodriguez blew the game open with a three-run home run. In the circle for Duke, Dani Drogemuller was dominant. She’d pitch a complete game shutout. It was the first time Stanford was shutout all season. That was on the way to a 7-0 win.
Game 7: No. 2 Clemson 7, No. 7 Virginia 4
Clemson trailed Virginia by a run before Taylor Pipkens came up to bat in the with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning and mashed a grand slam to left field to give the Tigers the lead. The two teams had traded runs in the previous innings, but the single swing of the bat from the freshman put the game out of reach for the Cavaliers.
Game 8: No. 3 Virginia Tech 4, No. 6 North Carolina 0
The rain was pouring in Brighton, Massachusetts late during the final game of the quarterfinals — and so were the runs for Virginia Tech. The Hokies scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the sixth amid a downpour of rain. Tech pitcher Emma Lemley pitched the full game, allowing just one hit across 111 pitches.
Friday, May 9
Game 9: Florida State 3, Duke 2
Duke made things close at the top of the seventh on the top overall seed in the bracket with a score off an error leading to a one-score game with runners on second and third. However, a final out for Florida State on a pop up closed out the semifinal win thanks as well to a home run in the sixth inning by Michaela Edenfield to give them that needed margin. The Seminoles now yet again to advance into the ACC Championship tomorrow as they await the winner of the other top seeds in this afternoon’s second semifinal.
Game 10: Clemson 10, Virginia Tech 9
Virginia Tech probably felt pretty good with four scores at the top of the sixth to push their lead to 9-2. However, with a disaster of a top in the sixth with eight scores allowed, five coming from errors or walks allowed, for the Hokies, Clemson took a 10-9 lead and flipped the semifinal completely with three outs to end it the next inning. Now, the Tigers will somehow be the team that advances to tomorrow’s game against Florida State in the ACC Championship.
Saturday, May 10
Championship: Clemson 2, Florida State 1
Just as Florida State looked like it was in the driver’s seat in Saturday’s ACC softball tournament championship game, Kylee Johnson launched a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. That stood as the difference as the Tigers came back to defeat the Seminoles and win the ACC tournament title.
