On Thursday, fans received another healthy serving of entertainment at the Big 12 Softball Tournament. Over 10 hours, eight teams took the field with their postseason hopes on the line. No. 6 seed BYU kicked off the excitement with a 7-2 upset win over No. 3 Oklahoma State.

The Cougars scored the first seven runs of the game and never looked back. The victory marked BYU’s team’s third win over a Top 10 team this season, the most in program history. The team has now won four-straight games.

BYU isn’t the only team catching fire at the right time. For the first time since 2011, Oklahoma did not enter the Big 12 Tournament as the No. 1 seed. The reigning national champions embraced the unusual situation, run-ruling Kansas in a 10-1 effort with the help of Ella Parker’s team-high two RBI.

Kansas wasn’t alone in its misery. In the following game, No. 1 Texas run-ruled in-state rival Texas Tech in 13-4 fashion. The Longhorns scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning alone. Catcher Katie Stewart led the charge with a team-high three hits.

To close, the No. 4 Baylor Bears defeated No. 5 UCF 3-2 in a heated battle. The victory meant more than a simple stripe in the win column. It was Baylor’s first win in the conference tournament since 2018. After the game, head coach Glenn Moore admitted he used the string of misfortune to motivate his team. Now, Moore and his Bears will look to keep the good times rolling.
