SEC Softball Tournament weather delay: When Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma will start
After moving from its original start time, the 2025 SEC softball tournament championship game between Oklahoma and Texas A&M is in a weather delay, the conference announced. The game was ultimately canceled as the rain continued.
Saturday’s game was originally scheduled for 5 p.m. ET, but the SEC moved it to a 1 p.m. ET start time in preparation for weather predicted to hit the Athens area. However, the game will not start on time due to a cell of rain over Jack Turner Stadium.
As of 1 p.m. ET, the tarp was still on the field. However, commissioner Greg Sankey announced Oklahoma and Texas A&M would be co-tournament champions after the game’s cancellation.
Oklahoma and Texas A&M both secured their spots in the title game Friday afternoon with victories in the semifinal. The championship game will feature not only the top two seeds in the SEC tournament, but also the top two teams in the country.
Oklahoma got things started with Friday’s first semifinal game and pulled off the biggest comeback in tournament history. The Sooners trailed 6-1 in the third inning before rallying for the 8-6 win on Gabbie Garcia’s walk-off three-run homer. In addition, OU hit the most home runs in a game in tournament history.

The Sooners scored each of their first five runs on solo home runs, including two from Sydney Barker. That set the table for Garcia to loft one to deep center field and complete the historic comeback to propel Oklahoma to the SEC tournament championship in its first year in the conference.
Texas A&M also made history with its performance against rival Texas. The first six Aggies batters scored in the first inning as they flew past the Longhorns 14-2 in five innings via run rule. That set a new tournament record for most runs scored by a team in a run-rule victory, breaking a record Texas A&M set during Thursday’s quarterfinal round.
Amari Harper led the charge for Texas A&M with six RBI, including a three-run home run in the third inning for what proved to be the Aggies’ final runs of the evening. KK Dement also added five RBI to the effort with two home runs – a three-run blast in the first inning and a two-run homer in the second.
Now, the stage is set for Oklahoma and Texas A&M to square off in the title game. The Sooners are the No. 1 seed in the 2025 SEC softball tournament, but the Aggies are currently ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.
