A large portion of the Virginia Tech fan base was upset when Georgia Amoore made the decision to follow Kenny Brooks to Kentucky.

Amoore, Brooks and three-time ACC Player of the Year Liz Kitley accomplished incredible things during their time in Blacksburg, including leading Virginia Tech to its first Final Four in school history.

However, all three are now gone as Kitley is off to the WNBA, while Amoore and Brooks left for Kentucky after the 2023-24 season.

Kitley and Amoore spoke on the Queens of Cassell podcast recently and shared that they are upset with the reaction from Virginia Tech fans to Amoore and Brooks leaving the Hokies program.

“I think it’s really unfair for me to be copping strays from people, getting mad at me for doing that. It makes me a little sick to my tummy,” Georgia Amoore said. “I’m still in Blacksburg. I still have to graduate. But it’s like, my vibes here have been horrific. Because people stop me on the street, people have their two cents, people still DM me, people still comment on all of my stuff.

“I was going to graduate and be happy that I had a degree from Virginia Tech and I was a Hokie. But it’s left a damn bad taste in my mouth, in all honesty.”

Kitley added that it’s disappointing that the reaction has been so negative about the moves. She wishes everyone would focus on what the trio helped accomplish in Blacksburg and not the fact that Brooks and Amoore are now going to Lexington.

“I think it’s silly for people to come for Georgia when she gave everything she had for four years,” Liz Kitley said. “Coach Brooks and Georgia gave everything they had for this program. We did incredible things.

“And I hate the fact that my career, that Georgia’s career, that coach Brooks’ career is feeling tainted by people that feel that they were robbed from something, when in reality we were able to give so much to the program and we loved doing it while we did it. And I feel like that just needs to be reflected in a positive light.”

It’s clear that Amoore and Kitley enjoyed their time at Virginia Tech and are thankful for the memories they made. But it’s also clear that they’re upset with how everything has unfolded as of late.

“Obviously I want to follow coach Brooks. And let’s all be honest here. Coach Brooks sold me on Blacksburg, Blacksburg did not sell me on coach Brooks. Like why would I not have followed him?” Amoore said.

“The majority of people making all the noise really made me upset. It’s a bad taste. It’s disgusting. … It’s made me sick. Like saying this right now, I’ve got tears in my eyes.”
