Hurricane Helene made landfall on Thursday and has proceeded to batter the Southeast with roaring winds and serious flooding.

Beginning in Florida and working its way North, Helene has wreaked havoc, spoiling plenty of high school football plans this weekend. In Atlanta, Westminster School was one of the teams that luckily did not have a game scheduled this week, though it wouldn’t have mattered if they did.

Westminster coach Mike D’Andraia took to X on Friday morning to show the Wildcats’ football field completely flooded due to the Category 4 storm. Multiple phots and videos have since followed, depicting the currently-sunken Fritz Orr Field.

“We picked a good week to have a bye,” D’Andraia wrote.

The pair of field goal posts, top ends of each set of bleachers, lights posts, the scoreboard and a flag pole are all that’s able to stand above the water. Drone footage from WCAT helps illustrate just how submerged the entire athletic facility is for the time being.

Plenty of games across Georgia, Alabama, Florida and elsewhere have been postponed or cancelled this week. While Friday nights usually take center stage, a majority of games have moved to either Saturday or Monday. Of the top 25 Peach State programs, per the On3 Massey Ratings, 16 are still slated to play across the coming days, or played earlier in the week.

Scores for the week in the state of Georgia can be found here.

Westminster is currently 3-3 on the season, with all three of its victories coming at home. It is scheduled to return to action next Friday, Oct. 4, on the road at Cambridge in Milton.

It’s next home game is scheduled for Oct. 11 against Marietta Kell, though that might depend on the eventual condition of Fritz Orr Field following this weekend’s unfortunate weather.
