King Gibson, the top-ranked point guard from the Class of 2027, announced on X/Twitter that he will play his junior high school basketball season at SPIRE Academy. He will follow his coach, Kevin Boyle, who took over SPIRE after coaching at Montverde Academy for 15 seasons. Likewise, Gibson attended The Burlington School in his home state of North Carolina.

Gibson is a four-star prospect who is also the tenth-best player among high school juniors. He will join fellow Class of 2027 prospect Jaylan Mitchell at SPIRE Academy. Mitchell is a four-star small forward who transferred from Indiana’s Reitz High School.

During his recent stint at the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, King Gibson averaged 17.3 points, 3.9 assists, and 5.7 rebounds. He also tallied 89 points in 19 games for Montverde, including a 10-point outing against eventual national champions Columbus and 12 points versus Legacy Early College.

In addition to Gibson and Mitchell, SPIRE Academy will also have seniors Alex Constanza and Tarris Bouie. Constanza is a five-star small forward and the 12th-best prospect among the Class of 2026 players. Meanwhile, Bouie is a four-star forward who previously played for Chambers High School.

King Gibson has a 97.21 On3 Industry Rating, which also makes him the second-best prospect in Ohio. While he has two years of high school basketball remaining, he has already received offers from North Carolina State, Texas A&M, Penn State, Georgia, South Carolina, Wake Forest, LSU, and Michigan, among others. He will be playing for Boyle, an iconic mentor who won eight high school national championships at Montverde.
