Former NBA player becomes Pennsylvania high school basketball head coach

A former National Basketball Association player will take the reins of a Pennsylvania high school basketball program. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Isabella DiAmore reported that Brad Wanamaker will take over the basketball team of his alma mater, Roman Catholic High School.
Wanamaker will take over from Chris McNesby, who led the Cahillites to four Philadelphia Catholic League championships and three Philadelphia Interscholastic Athletic Association titles. McNesby followed Dennis Seddon, who coached Wanamaker when he played for Roman Catholic.
Before taking the helm of last season’s top-ranked Pennsylvania high school basketball team, Brad Wanamaker served as an assistant under McNesby. He played for the Cahillites from 2004 to 2007 and led the squad to a 28-3 record and a PCL championship during his senior year.
After high school, Wanamaker played for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers and became an Honorable Mention All-American after scoring 1,090 points. While he became an undrafted free agent after the 2011 NBA Draft, he started an international professional basketball career that took him to Italy, France, Germany, Turkey, and the NBA G League’s Austin Toros.
After going overseas, his four-year NBA career featured stints with the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, and Washington Wizards.

Brad Wanamaker will be in control of the No. 1 Pennsylvania high school basketball team after finishing the 2024-25 season with a 25-6 record. However, the Cahillites fell short against the Father Judge Crusaders in the Class 6A state championship.
At Roman Catholic, Wanamaker will coach brothers Sammy and Shayne Jackson, sons of Marc Jackson, a forward/center who played for five NBA teams in seven years. Wanamaker’s son, Brad, also plays for the Cahillites.
While Roman Catholic’s full 2025-26 Pennsylvania high school basketball schedule isn’t available yet, they already have a scheduled match against the Archbishop Ryan Raiders on January 9, 2026.
