Prediction: Thompson (Ala.) repeats as Class 7A champs

The 2025 high school football season will be getting underway in just a few short weeks, which means it’s officially preview season. Rivals is breaking down the nation’s top teams from coast-to-coast, and today we make our way back over to the Yellowhammer State and check on last year’s AHSAA Class 7A state champion Thompson Warriors. The Warriors upended Phenix City Central for the 7A crown and have another talented bunch preparing to defend the title. Can Thompson end up winning the program’s seventh state title and notching a repeat?
Player Spotlight: QB Trent Seaborn
When looking at the teams throughout Alabama that can stake a case to winning a state championship, many of them have a very capable quarterback under center. That’s the case for Thompson as they return their 4-star starting quarterback for his senior campaign. Seaborn had a splendid 2024 campaign en route to leading Thompson to its first title since 2022. As a junior, Seaborn completed 210 of 328 passes for 2,675 yards and 26 touchdowns. Seaborn should certainly have a shot to surpass those totals this fall.
Others to watch: DL Cam Pritchett, DL Viliami Moala, EDGE Peter Ramil, S Trenton McCorvey, WR Darion Moseley, WR Dedrick Kimbrough
Season Prediction: 9-1
The reigning Class 7A champions are not going to go down without a fight and with the talented cast of players returning, it’s going to be hard for any team in Class 7A to unseat them. Contenders like Phenix City Central and Hoover will be eventual opponents in the postseason, but that’s not until they get through a difficult regular season slate. The loss we forecast is in Week 2 when they welcome arguably Georgia’s top team in the Grayson Rams. After that lone loss, we see Thompson running the table all the way back To Birmingham for a shot at a repeat. It’s there that the Warriors will hoist the Class 7A crown.
