Son of Hakeem Olajuwon received offer from his college alma mater

Aziz Olajuwon, son of Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, posted on his X account that he received an offer from the University of Houston. It’s a noteworthy option because his father became a household name among basketball fans when he burst into the scene at Houston.
The younger Olajuwon was relatively unknown even if he averaged 19.9 points, nine rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game during his junior year at Fort Bend Clements. However, he started turning heads during the NBPA Top 100 camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Aziz Olajuwon averaged 20.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during the camp. His performance against some of the top high school basketball prospects earned him an 88.76 Rivals Industry Ranking. From being an unranked player, Hakeem Olajuwon’s son became the 15th best prospect among Texas’ Class of 2026 players, the 44th-best small forward, and the 144th-best prospect from high school seniors.
Joining the Cougars allows Aziz Olajuwon to continue his father’s legacy. Coming from Nigeria, Hakeem Olajuwon stormed into the college basketball as one of the famed “Phi Slamma Jama” era. Teamed with Clyde Drexler and an entertaining collection of high-flying players, Houston reached back-to-back NCAA championship games. He declared for the 1984 NBA Draft after three years with the Cougars and landed with the Houston Rockets with the first overall pick.

The older Olajuwon played most of his NBA career with the Rockets, winning two championships and earning the 1994 Most Valuable Player award. He’s also a six-time All-NBA First Team member and a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Houston offer is enticing to Aziz Olajuwon because the Cougars reached this year’s NCAA Division 1 championship but lost to Florida by two points. Despite that loss, they won the Big 12 Conference and should remain competitive throughout the near future.
In addition to Houston, Olajuwon received offers from TCU, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Xavier, Arizona State, and DePaul.
