Top 10 Games of the 2025 Alabama High School Football Season
We keep the good times rolling and head into the great state of Alabama in our series of top 10 high school football games of the 2025 season.
The Yellowhammer State has no shortage of intriguing matchups when you take a look at the front end of the season to the end. From nationally-ranked teams coming into Alabama to rematches from last season, there was plenty to pick from.
But which 10 Alabama high school football games were exactly the ones that fans should hop into their vehicles and go watch this fall? No worries, we took care of that for you so sit back and give this one quick read.
1. Thompson at Hoover, Oct. 17
Meaningful high school football games are back at The Met and last year, this game went down to the wire between the two Class 7A giants. Both the Warriors and Buccaneers will be contenders when it comes to the AHSAA’s highest classification and when these two storied programs meet in mid-October, this could be a preview of what’s to come once the playoffs roll around. It really doesn’t get too much better than this one in our opinion.
2. Phenix City Central at Auburn, Oct. 3
We put this one higher up our list because of how it played out a year ago. 71 points and the Tigers snapped the Red Devils’ 18-game winning streak that had dated back to the 2022 season. Take a guess who handed ’em that very loss? If you said Auburn, you would be correct and the Tigers upended the Red Devils last year in a 38-33 decision. This game has plenty of implications when you’re looking at the bigger picture of Class 7A.
3. Saraland at Jackson, Aug. 22
Many might wonder how much luster this game loses now that KJ Lacey has graduated, but we think this contest still holds a ton of value. Seeing that both teams remain perennial powerhouses in their respective classifications, it’s honestly for a regular season opener shaping up to be the game to watch in Alabama. Whenever state championship contending teams meet, with one quarterbacked by South Carolina commit Landon Duckworth, might be reasoning enough to be higher up on any Games of the Year list.
4. IMG Academy (Fla.) at Hoover, Aug. 22
What a way to start off the season if you’re the Hoover Buccaneers. Chip English’s first game as the official head coach, with the interim tag removed this off-season. How about trying to upset one of the nation’s top high school football programs in IMG Academy? This will definitely be much easier said than done, but not impossible. The Buccaneers have the talent and the crowd atmosphere will be second to none.
5. Baker at Mary G. Montgomery, Oct. 17
Two schools separated by a mere 20 minutes always sets up for some entertaining high school football. The Hornets and Vikings played to an overtime thriller in last year’s edition, with Mary G. Montgomery pulling off a 34-31 win on the final play of extra time. If you don’t think that hasn’t replayed through the minds of those over at Baker, you might want to think again as the Hornets will be looking to exact revenge on the road.

6. St. Michael Catholic at Jackson, Oct. 3
Not many games get more quarterback eccentric than this one when St. Michael Catholic visits the Jackson Aggies. Gunner Rivers versus Landon Duckworth, who recently committed to South Carolina, sounds like the price of admission altogether. Both players are among a couple of the top passers in the Southeast and getting a chance to see them go head-to-head is a treat for any Alabama high school football fan.
7. Mountain Brook at Parker, Aug. 29
Now we know you’re probably wondering why Hoover-Parker isn’t ahead of this one, but there’s reasons for this. The Thundering Herd are coming off winning the AHSAA 6A state championship last season and Mountain Brook is a team that’s going to be in that very conversation of coming for a title. When looking at Week 2 matchups, this one becomes a bit more intriguing to the fact that this could be a preview of what’s to come in November or December.
8. Vestavia Hills at Hewitt-Trussville, Sept. 5
Two Class 7A powers going at it in Week 3 and we’re all here for it. The Rebels and the Huskies meeting last year was a knock down, drag out contest with Hewitt-Trussville pulling off the narrow 18-14 victory. Both teams bring back key players from last year’s squad, including the Huskies returning 2028 running back Chris Davis, who has become one of the most sought after tailbacks of this sophomore class. Hard not seeing this one being another good one.
9. Carver Montgomery at Enterprise, Oct. 3
The Cramton Bowl was rocking when both of these teams met last season as Enterprise walked away with a narrow 17-14 victory over Carver Montgomery. It was the Wildcats’ defense that stood tall, holding the Wolverines’ offense on four straight plays inside of the Enterprise 5-yard line to hold onto the victory. Seeing this game go down to the wire again looks like a no-doubter.
10. UMS-Wright Prep at T.R. Miller, Sept. 26
Something about putting one of UMS Wright Prep’s games on here because of the first season of Sam Williams at the helm just feels right. Williams took over the Bulldogs this offseason, coming over from Brandon (Miss.) after leading the program to the state championship game three out of the last four years. Replacing an Alabama high school football legend like Terry Curtis is no easy task and this would be right around the midway point of the season. Seeing this was a pretty solid contest in 2024, there’s little saying it won’t be this fall.
