Virginia's top-ranked Maury scores 97 points in win
Norfolk (Va.) Maury went on the road to face Portsmouth (Va.) Manor and scored a whopping 97 points in a shutout victory. A late touchdown that would have put the Commodores at 103 points was taken off the board.
Two of Maury’s first four touchdowns came in unconventional ways, including a punt return for a touchdown and a fumble recovery for a score.
Maury, the No. 1 team in Virginia according to the On3 Massey Ratings, improved to 6-0 on the season with that shocking result. Its previous season high for points scored was 62 in a shutout win over Lake Taylor.
