Way-Too-Early Idaho High School Football Top 25 Rankings

As the high school football season approaches in Idaho, anticipation is building as teams prepare to make their mark on the 2025 campaign. From powerhouse programs with storied histories to rising programs eager to showcase their talent, the landscape of Idaho high school football is more competitive and exciting than ever. Here are the top 25 teams in the Gem State, according to Massey.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. Rigby Trojans
The Trojans are Iowa high school football’s best team after winning the Class 6A state championship over Eagle. That victory capped off an 11-game winning streak after dropping their season opener against Coeur D’Alene.
For 2025, Rigby will aim for another state championship under head coach Armando Gonzalez. Their schedule starts against Coeur D’Alene, the same team that defeated them, on Aug. 22. Likewise, quarterback Jacob Flowers will play a crucial role in their title defense.
2. Rocky Mountain Grizzlies
The Grizzlies were two victories away from the Class 6A state championship. Sadly, eventual champions Rigby eliminated them in state semifinals, which turned out to be their only loss last season.
Avenging that defeat will be on Rocky Mountain’s 2025 agenda. However, before they get a shot at the state tournament, the Grizzlies will open the season against Orem (Utah) on Aug. 29. Tight end Drew Byrd (Washington State), four-star interior offensive lineman Jax Tanner (BYU), and edge rusher Rowan Rupp (Boise State) are vital to their success.
3. Eagle Mustangs
The Mustangs lost to Rigby in the Class 6A state championship game 41-21. Two of their three losses last year were against Rigby and Rock Mountain. Eagle hopes to unseat the Trojans from the throne and claim the state crown. However, their 2025 journey starts with a game against Meridian on Aug. 29.
4. Madison Bobcats
After starting the season with a six-game winning streak, the Bobcats suffered their first defeat last season against Rigby. Ultimately, Eagle eliminated them during the Class 6A quarterfinals, dropping their record to 9-2. Madison aspires to exceed that finish this year, and their season starts on August 22 against Bonneville.

5. Skyline Senior Grizzlies
After starting the season at 1-2, the Grizzlies won their next nine games. Sadly, Hillcrest dominated them in the Idaho high school football Class 5A state championship game, dropping Skyline to 9-3. This year, they get an opportunity to avenge that loss. However, their path starts with an Aug. 30 game against Utah’s Granger Lancers.
