While the state is more known for its robust high school basketball scene, Indiana high school football is no pushover. From powerhouse programs with storied histories to rising programs eager to showcase their talent, the landscape of Idaho high school football is more competitive and exciting than ever. Here are the top 25 teams in the Hoosier State, according to Massey.

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Brownsburg Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are coming off of their first Indiana high school football state championship since the 1985-86 season. Defeating Westfield for the Class 6A state title closed their campaign at 13-1. After their lone loss to Hamilton Southeastern, Brownsburg went on a five-game winning streak to become state champions.

Defending the crown will be the Bulldogs’ foremost mission in 2025. Their season starts against Maryland’s Archbishop Spalding on Aug. 22. Quarterback Oscar Frye will navigate an offensive unit featuring wide receivers Avin Robinson and Branden Sharpe. Dami Sowunmi will anchor their defensive line.

2. Westfield Shamrocks

While the Shamrocks lost only two games, both were against the same team (Brownsburg). Those losses include their 22-17 setback in the Class 6A state championship game. Meanwhile, that defeat extends their state championship drought to eight seasons.

Westfield will have a chance to chase that elusive title in 2025, starting with its season-opener against Homestead on Aug. 22. The Shamrocks have superb offensive linemen in Kansas commit Malachi Mills and interior lineman Job Maverick. Meanwhile, cornerback Cato June and safety Deacon King lead their defensive secondary.

3. Center Grove Trojans

After winning three-straight Indiana high school football Class 6A state championships from 2020 to 2022, the Trojans lost to Ben Davis in the 2023 state semifinals and to Brownsburg in the 2024 semis.

Center Grove hopes to regain their crown in 2025. Their season starts against Warren Central on August 22, and their schedule features a rematch with Ben Davis. Quarterback Oscar Sloan will lead the charge on offense, while linemen Brady Weber and CJ Scifres provide protection. Likewise, tight end Dominick Barry will be a versatile weapon. Defensive lineman Kobe Cherry will be a problem for opposing offenses.

4. Lawrence North Wildcats

The Wildcats carried an 11-game winning streak before losing to the eventual state champions, Brownsburg, in the Class 6A regional championship. It’s a disappointing end to a promising season, extending their state championship drought to 12 seasons.

Lawrence North starts its 2025 schedule against Lawrence Central on Aug. 22. The Wildcats’ offense should be plenty explosive thanks to wide receiver Monshun Sales and running back Izayveon Moore.

5. Cathedral Fighting Irish

The Fighting Irish started the 2024 Indiana high school football season by winning five of seven games. However, they lost two of their final three matches, including their Class 6A sectional championship exit against Lawrence North.

Like last year, Cathedral will start its season against Ben Davis on Aug. 22 and face Brownsburg a week later. Quarterback Chase Grove, running back Xavier Dangerfield, wide receiver Jackson Harvey and tight end Collin Walls will lead the Fighting Irish’s offense. On the other side of the ball, safety Zyon Hill is their antidote against big plays.
