The playing fields of Wisconsin high school football will shine bright again on Friday, Sept. 27, as the state’s top teams continue their 2024 season. The competition gets more intense as each squad will be within or beyond the halfway mark of their game schedules.

However, out of the hundreds of matches that will be played that day, those featuring the top 25 teams of the latest Wisconsin On3 Massey Ratings will pull much attention. Here’s how every top-25 game might go down.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Top Wisconsin High School Football games – Sept. 27

Hortonville @ #1 Kimberly
The Kimberly Papermakers have the state’s top-ranked defense after limiting opponents to 8.75 points per game. Conversely, Hortonville scored only six points in their only victory (so far) this season. They’ve lost four of their five games by an average of 21.75 points. It would take a miracle for the Polar Bears to thaw the dominance of Wisconsin’s top-ranked football team.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Kimberly 43, Hortonville 6

#2 Mukwonago @ Kettle Moraine
Having some breaks go their way would have maintained the Indians’ undefeated record this season. However, after losing to fourth-ranked Arrowhead, Mukwonago bounced back by convincingly defeating tenth-ranked Muskego on the road and Pewaukee at home. The Indians will now face Kettle Moraine, a team coming off back-to-back wins after their shutout loss to fifth-ranked Oconomowoc. While Mukwonago will be the visiting team, they have the talent to defeat the Lasers and improve to 5-1.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Mukwonago 34, Kettle Moraine 14

Bradford @ #3 Franklin
The Sabers maintained their undefeated record by dominating Oak Creek 52-21. Their point total in that game improved their offensive ranking to fifth among Wisconsin high school football teams. Franklin will host the Red Devils, who are coming off a 35-point loss to Horlick. The third-best team in Wisconsin should easily chalk in another victory.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Franklin 47, Bradford 7

#4 Arrowhead @ #5 Oconomowoc
In the marquee matchup this week, the fourth-ranked Warhawks will carry their three-game winning streak as they visit the 5-0 Oconomowoc Racoons. Arrowhead had a low-scoring victory over tenth-ranked Muskego last week and has defeated other top-ten teams like Marquette University and Mukwonago. Meanwhile, Oconomowoc’s defense has been elite during their undefeated run, limiting opponents to seven points per game. While this game could be a toss-up, Arrowhead could escape with a road victory.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Arrowhead 27, Oconomowoc 20

#8 New Richmond @ #6 Rice Lake
The Tigers will visit the Warriors in another high-caliber matchup wherein one team’s winning streak will end. New Richmond earned their 5-0 record by limiting their opponents to 8.2 points per game. Conversely, Rice Lake hasn’t scored below 36 points and is coming off a season-high 47 versus Chippewa Falls. However, since they have a home-field advantage, Rice Lake should win this offense-versus-defense showdown.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Rice Lake 30, New Richmond 21

#7 Marquette @ Nathan Hale
This match features two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum. The Hilltoppers have won four straight games after their season-opening loss to Arrowhead. Meanwhile, Nathan Hale has suffered four consecutive defeats, the latest against 13th-ranked Hamilton. Marquette should have a massive advantage in this contest.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Marquette 47, Nathan Hale 7

Oregon @ #9 Waunakee
The Oregon Panthers haven’t won in five matches and scored only seven points in each of their last two games. On the other hand, Waunakee has won two consecutive games after their surprising defeat against Vel Phillips Memorial. Their latest conquest was a 49-0 demolition of Fort Atkinson. Playing at home gives Waunakee the edge against an exponentially weaker opponent.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Waunakee 47, Oregon 6

#10 Muskego @ #21 Germantown
While Germantown (4-1) has a better record than Muskego (3-2), the Warriors suffered losses against top-ten teams Mukwonago and Arrowhead. Meanwhile, the Warhawks lost two Marquette two weeks ago before earning a 21-7 victory versus Brookfield East. Muskego will have the last laugh against Germantown despite being the road team, especially when the second-best defense in Wisconsin high school football puts the clamps on the home team.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Muskego 28, Germantown 6

Middleton @ #11 Verona Area
Surprisingly, Middleton held their ground against Vel Phillips Memorial before losing by three points. After that, the Cardinals bounced back with consecutive victories over Craig and Parker. Middleton could keep the game against Verona Area close, but the Wildcats are on another level, as proven by their 5-0 record while limiting opponents to 3.8 points per game. Likewise, playing at home gives the Wildcats a tremendous boost.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Verona Area 33, Middleton 20

#15 Appleton North @ #12 Kaukauna
The Galloping Ghosts and the Lightning have 4-1 records and active winning streaks. Appleton North extended their streak to three games after a 24-13 outcome against Hortonville. Meanwhile, Kaukauna is on a four-game streak after a 35-20 win over Fond Du Lac. While this battle will be intense, the home team will have the upper hand even if Appleton North has the third-best defense in Wisconsin high school football.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Kaukauna 22, Appleton North 14

#13 Hamilton @ Menomonee Falls
The Chargers are coming off a 55-0 shutout victory over Nathan Hale and have surrendered only 43 points in their four victories. Therefore, the winless Menomonee Falls Phoenix will have their hands full when they host Hamilton. The Phoenix remains winless after five matches, including three home games. With their superiority over Menomonee Falls, it’s hard to envision Hamilton being the Phoenix’s first victim this season.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Hamilton 42, Menomonee Falls 8

Whitefish Bay @ #14 Slinger
After giving up 87 points in their first three victories, the Slinger Owls limited West and Nicolet to seven points in their last two wins. Conversely, the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes have lost two consecutive games after winning their first three assignments. With Slinger having a home-field advantage, the Blue Dukes will find it challenging to match their undefeated opponent.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Slinger 40, Whitefish Bay 14

#16 Neenah @ #15 Appleton North
The Neenah Rockets have won three of their last four games by an average margin of 32.7 points. Their only loss during that stretch was against 12th-ranked Kaukauna. Neenah will visit Appleton North, a team that has won four straight matches and has given up double-digit points only once. It’s a battle going down the wire, with the road team getting the edge.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Neenah 21, Appleton North 18

Southwest @ #17 Bay Port
Southwest’s quest for their first victory this season will take them to Bay Port, a team that has won four of their first five games. The Pirates’ only loss this year was against top-ranked Kimberly. Take away that decision, and you’ll see a squad that has obliterated their opponents lately. Bay Port’s 49-6 win over Ashwaubenon last Sept. 20 cements that declaration. Therefore, Southwest will crack against what’s coming, especially with the Pirates playing at home.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Bay Port 47, Southwest 7

Wauwatosa West @ #18 Catholic Memorial
The Trojans have found their groove after winning their last three games, including a 51-16 beatdown of Waukesha South. Despite that good fortune, Catholic Memorial is on another gear. After losing their season opener against third-ranked Franklin, the Crusaders have won four straight games, including a 42-0 shutout of New Berlin West. The Crusaders will conquer the Trojans at home, improving their record to 5-1.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Catholic Memorial 42, Wauwatosa West 7

De Pere @ #19 West De Pere
The De Pere Redbirds have won four of their first five games, including three straight victories against Pulaski, Ashwaubenon, and Preble. That record could suggest a close fight when they visit the West De Pere Phantoms. However, the host team also has a 4-1 record, blanking three opponents. Meanwhile, the only blemish in their standing is a four-point loss to Kaukauna. Therefore, the Phantoms will easily score their fifth victory in the 2024 Wisconsin high school football season.
Massey Ratings Prediction: West De Pere, De Pere 13

Hartford @ #20 Homestead
After losing to 14th-ranked Slinger, the Hartford Orioles are back on the winning track with two consecutive victories. Meanwhile, the Homestead Highlanders gained victory in their last four matches. The Orioles may have built some momentum lately, but the Highlanders will end their run.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Homestead 34, Hartford 14

#22 Mount Horeb @ Sauk Prairie
The Sauk Prairie Eagles have been on a roller-coaster ride this season as they’ve interchanged wins and losses in their first five games. Their latest result was a 24-14 victory over Lakeside Lutheran. Sauk Prairie will welcome the Mount Horeb Vikings, an undefeated team that dominated Stoughton by 54 points. The visiting team should handily defeat the Eagles for a 6-0 record.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Mount Horeb 40, Sauk Prairie 14

East @ #23 Cedarburg
West Bend East has lost its first five games this season. Worse yet, it has suffered three shutout losses and forfeited its latest schedule against 20th-ranked Homestead. Cedarburg doesn’t have such problems after winning their first games and scoring a season-high 56 points against Whitefish Bay. The Bulldogs should dominate on their home turf to keep the Suns winless.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Cedarburg 42, West Bend East 7

#25 Notre Dame De La Baie Academy @ Menasha
The Tritons are at 5-0 after consecutive shutout victories over Green Bay East and Lincoln. They’ve also defeated 12th-ranked Kaukauna in their season opener 16-13. Meanwhile, the Menasha Bluejays are coming off three straight wins, including shutouts versus Oshkosh North and Green Bay East. Despite the Bluejays’ good fortune and being the road team, Notre Dame will notch their sixth win in as many matches.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Notre Dame De La Baie 35, Menasha 20

Top Wisconsin High School Football games – Sept. 28

#24 Vel Phillips Memorial @ Madison East
The Purgolders haven’t struck gold in five games, losing by an average of 43.8 points. They’ve been shut out twice and lost to Janesville Craig by 37 points in their latest meeting. Meanwhile, Vel Phillips is having a good start to the 2024 Wisconsin high school football season, save for their 10-0 loss to the tenth-ranked Verona Area. Playing at home gives them a tremendous advantage against the winless Madison East.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Vel Phillips Memorial 49, East 7
