2022 NBA Draft Lottery reveals updated order for picks 1-14
The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery took place Tuesday night in Chicago ahead of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat on ESPN. The closed-door event sees many front office members locked away from mobile devices until the pick order becomes public on the delayed television broadcast.
Each NBA team in the running also sends a representative to the broadcast room to serve as the public figure for each pick. This year’s list of celebrities includes current NBA stars Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers), Domantas Sabonis (Kings) and PJ Washington (Hornets). In addition, former stars Rip Hamilton (Pistons), Nick Collison (Thunder), David Robinson (Spurs) and Anderson Varejao (Cavaliers).
The order is determined by the random draw, which gives each team a percentage chance based on their final place in the standings, and then gets sealed in envelopes.

There is no consensus No. 1 overall pick this year, with a large group of top-level prospects whose order could be determined by the team needs more so than any perceived gap in talent. Duke’s Paolo Banchero and Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren have received the most hype entering the draft process alongside Auburn’s Jabari Smith. However, Purdue’s Jaden Ivey has drawn big-time comparisons which have caused his stock to rise while Kentucky’s Shaedon Sharpe remains an outsider with little film.
ESPN broadcast the results starting at 8 p.m. ET and provided fans, prospects and teams a better understanding of how the 2022 NBA Draft will unfold, at least in the lottery picks (1-14).
