On Friday, Dillon Mitchell set the national freshman record in the 100m with a time of 10.35 seconds. On Saturday, he ran the same race in 10.29 seconds. That speed led to offers from national programs in record time.

“I got 10 offers in about 90 minutes,” Mitchell told On3. “Going into the weekend, I had offers from Texas State, Arkansas, Sacramento State and UIW (University of Incarnate Word).

“After I ran Saturday, Houston offered first. Right after that, Texas Tech offered. They were getting in touch with my trainer, my coach and some schools talked to my parents. After the events, I got in my car for about 30 minutes to drive home.

“Offers kept coming in as we drove home. SMU offered, then Florida, Grambling was next and then Georgia. Baylor, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Marshall came after Georgia.

“It was crazy. It all happened so fast.”

His best time entering the weekend was 10.45 seconds. He knew he was fast and he knew he had talent, but this was all unexpected.

“It was a very eventful. Saturday was one of my best days ever. My hard work helped me get the recognition. The Lord blessed me and He delivered. I felt like I deserved it because I had put the work in, but I did not see this coming. It was all a blessing.”

Mitchell’s brother (Will) plays at Texas State, so the 5-foot-8, 155-pound speedster out of Houston (Texas) C.E. King has been on that campus. He has spent time at Texas Tech and his parents attended Texas A&M, so he knows about College Station, but he is now excited about what the future holds.

“I know a little about some schools closer to me, but Georgia is a school I know about because they have been very good in college football and developed a lot of top players the last few years. That is really the only one I know a lot about.

“Now I want to know a lot more about all of the schools that offered me. This all feels like a dream. In an hour and a half, I got 10 offers and now I will keep grinding, work hard, learn about these schools and start going on visits. I know I want to see schools like Georgia, Florida and Ole Miss.”

Mitchell played freshman football last season and he helped the team finish 10-0 with close to 1,400 all-purpose yards and 26 touchdowns.
