Semetri Carr, a three-star combo guard in the 2025 class, has committed to Cal and head coach Mark Madsen, he told On3.

The 6-foot senior out of Archbishop Riordan High (CA) chose the Golden Bears over programs like Colorado, New Mexico, and San Francisco.

Carr is the No. 157 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 10 combo guard prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Carr on his commitment to Cal

Semtri Carr went in-depth on his decision to choose Cal with On3.

“I chose Cal because it checked all of my boxes in terms of basketball, education, and location. The basketball program is a top-notch program and aligns with my goals on the court. The academic opportunities and resources at Cal are great and offer the kind of education I’m looking for and I am honored to represent the Bay.”

Being able to play for Mark Madsen was attractive to Carr.

“I had the opportunity to spend time with Coach Madsen and his staff, watching their practices and interactions with the team. Cal basketball has a competitive culture, where players push each other to excel daily. I’m excited to learn from someone who has made such a significant impact on the game, both on and off the court, and to receive guidance that will help me reach the next level.”

In his own words, what type of player is Cal getting in Semetri Carr?

“As a true point guard, I work hard to get my team involved, always looking to facilitate and create opportunities. I thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy pushing the ball up the court to keep the tempo high and challenge defenses.”

He has a message for Cal fans.

“Cal fans, I’m staying home… Let’s rock!”
