4-star athlete Derrick McFall sets commitment date, names top three schools
August 4 was already set to be a special day for Tyler (Texas) four-star athlete Derrick McFall and his family. That’s his mothers birthday and they were going to already enjoy the day celebrating.
Now they’ll have an extra reason to celebrate that day. McFall is set to make his college decision that afternoon picking between Colorado, UCLA and Washington.
“The main reason those three made my list is because they stayed loyal throughout the whole process,” McFall told On3. “They continued to show love and never showed a doubt in me.”
Of those three, McFall has taken trips to both Colorado and Washington. He hasn’t visited UCLA but noted that it doesn’t really hurt the Bruins chances in his recruitment because of the relationships he has there.
McFall noted that each of three schools are looking at him to likely split time at both running back and slot receiver. Both of those options work just fine for him.
As the days and weeks begin to countdown towards decision day, McFall says that he has a bit of an idea of where he’ll end up. Until Aug. 4 though, he’s just going to make everyone wait and see.

“It’ll depend on how they tell me I’m going to play,” said McFall, the No. 357 player in the 2024 class. “Who really has been the loyalist and shows me that they really need me at the next level.”
McFall breaks down his top three
Colorado: “They’ve got Prime Time there and treat it like an NFL program. That’s how you prepare for the NFL and I like the offense they run. I saw the spring game and I like how they use their backs.”
UCLA: “Everyone knows about Chip Kelly and how he always has a great offense. We have a great relationship and I talk with their receivers coach Jerry Neuheisel almost every day. It’s a great relationship and he tells me everything about them.”
Washington: “I’ve got a great relationship with Lee Marks, their running backs coach. He stays in contact and makes sure that I’m good all of the time. I also liked seeing what they did this past year.”
