4-star Chris McClellan calls UF visit 'crazy;' set to see OU next
Owasso (Okla.) High four-star defensive lineman Chris McClellan has been one of the biggest stock risers in the entire country over the past six months, and he’s getting to see the perks of being a coveted—and uncommitted—prospect.
McClellan, the No. 85 player in the the 2022 On300 rankings, took in his first SEC game as a prospect this weekend at The Swamp when No. 11 Florida hosted top-ranked Alabama. The Crimson Tide narrowly escaped with a 31-29 victory in front of a raucous crowd, but McClellan and his father Kenny were blown away by the atmosphere.
“The Swamp was great! Very nice experience to be a part of, probably one of the best games I’ve seen in person for sure,” Kenny McClellan told On3’s Nikki Chavanelle. “Everyone was happy to see us be able to make it in to Gainesville again. Did a great job making us feel at home.”
Chris McClellan will visit Oklahoma, others
McClellan has been a prime target for a number of SEC, Big 12 and Pac-12 programs over the past few months, including USC, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, and Ohio State. He visited the Gators, Trojans and Buckeyes in June as part of a whirlwind travel schedule. He’ll trip to Norman to see Oklahoma this weekend, and he’s scheduled to visit Alabama on October 23 for the Tide’s matchup with Tennessee. A visit to Ohio State is in the works for later this season, but no date has been set for that yet.

The atmosphere in Gainesville definitely put the Gators on the forefront of McClellan’s mind though. Kenny added: “That was Chris’s first time at an SEC game, so I’m sure it made an impact on him. He kept on saying “This place is crazy!”
With at least two scheduled visits still on the table and a likely trip to Columbus on the docket as well, McClellan could be someone schools are waiting until the early signing period for. But as he’s shown this year, the wait will be worth it.
