6-10 PF Charles Pur discusses South Carolina, Mississippi State, and the latest in his recruitment
On Thursday night, 6-foot-10 sophomore Charles Pur kicked off his high school season with a 27-point, 20-rebound game. His Burlington (NC) Christian team won the game and now starts the season 1-0. Pur had a good summer, playing with the Team United program on Nike’s E15 Circuit, and early returns show he is ready to take that next step with his game, and his recruitment.
“I am a competitive and aggressive big man,” Pur told On3. “I try to win every time I step on the court. I’m working on my shot and developing on the offensive side, I’m able to do more things this season. I’m watching a lot of AJ Dybantsa right now, he has great NBA potential. I like some NBA guys too, but I’m taking this step-by-step, I want to get where he is at first.”
On3 caught up with Charles Pur after a recent live viewing to discuss the latest with his recruitment.
“Right now I have offers from South Carolina, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, and Nicholls State,” Pur said. “I’ve heard from schools like Clemson, Wake Forest, and Alabama too. They all want me to come down for football games.”
Pur talks South Carolina
“I just went down there on a visit,” Pur said. “I saw that they’re a good team, a good program. They have passion for the game and they’re really competitive. They have a system, or a culture, where everyone is happy to be there and they all like each other, but at the same time they are really competing against one another.
“Going down there, before I went down I didn’t really know much about the college game, you know, standing up close to it and watching. Going to South Carolina, I got to see the speed of the game. It is so much different than high school basketball.

“It was a great campus, I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life. I got to meet Coach (Lamont) Paris and I got to hang out with the coaching staff a little. It was a great experience, to be honest, I loved it.”

MISSISSIPPI STATE: “To be honest, that offer is new. I know that they are in the SEC and that they are a D1 college. I talked with the assistant coach there, Coach (Patrice) Days, a couple of weeks ago. He called my AAU coach and I talked with them through him. They told me that they love my potential and that they want to have me come visit.”
CINCINNATI: “They like that I have a good feel about the game, especially how I play defense. They like my length and my defense a lot. They like my aggression, too. We’ve been keeping in contact pretty regularly, with my coaches and all.”
In his words
“When I start going through this process, I am going to be looking for a school where I can play and where I can compete,” Pur said. “I want to go somewhere I can develop. I want to create a good path for myself and develop my game the right way. That is the most important thing for me. I want to go to the school I know can help me get to the next level.”
