Aaron Rodgers shared details of a meeting he had with the New York Jets and head coach Aaron Glenn. On The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers revealed how things ended in New York.

“Listen, that was an interesting two years, to say the least. I figured that when I flew across country to my dime there would be a conversation,” Rodgers said. “The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking … he runs out of the room. I’m like that’s strange. Then he comes back with the GM, and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: You sure you wanna play football? And I said yes and he said ‘we’re going in another direction.'”

Rodgers added, “I felt there wasn’t an ample amount of respect in that meeting. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised based on some things I saw over two years.”

Why Aaron Glenn and New York Jets moved on from Aaron Rodgers

Glenn and Jets general manager Darren Mougey seemingly wanted to distance themselves from Rodgers since his two seasons with the team were not up to par. After the Jets announced they would release Rodgers, Glenn spoke to reporters about Jets players not being happy with the decision, specifically defensive lineman Quinnen Williams.

“Yes, I have talked to him,” Glenn told reporters at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, per ESPN. “And listen, I understand the reaction of the players, but I’ll say this: Every decision that me and [Mougey] make is to win and to win now.

“So, I understand it, but again: Listen, this is not going to be the last decision I make that’s going to upset some people, and that’s OK. But as men, we talk about it. We make sure we keep it in-house, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”

Rodgers was a member of the Green Bay Packers from 2005-2022. He was traded to the Jets in April 2023, and the team reworked his contract. During the 2023 season, Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in the opener and missed the rest of the year. He played in all 17 regular-season games last year and led the Jets to a 5-12 record.
