AJ Brown calls former Ole Miss teammate Elijah Moore ROY favorite

Before the Elijah Moore hype train leaves the station, AJ Brown is taking his place as the conductor. The Tennessee Titans wide receiver is even willing to put his money where his mouth is as it pertains to his former teammate.

“He a real sleeper. I’ll put my money on him (for) Offensive Rookie of the Year, without a doubt, over anybody,” Brown said, during an appearance on the Raw Room podcast, per NFL.com. “I ain’t even discrediting the guys that went ahead of him. Ain’t nobody messing with him. Routes, anything, hands — it don’t matter. Nobody who came out is messing with him.”

While Brown is praising Moore’s routes, hands and sheer athletic ability, he believes Moore’s mindset is what truly sets him apart.

“It ain’t about his physical attributes. It ain’t about none of that,” Brown said. “It’s his mindset. That’s why we clicked on another level. … When I was in school, I lived with D.K. (Metcalf) a little bit. … When (Moore) got to school, I was like ‘Bro, you can come live with me, G.’ Because my mindset was already crazy, but for him, he was only going to make me better.

“I even took myself out of a game so he could score his first touchdown. Coach called the play. Because I see him working. I know what he wanted to do. I know the dreams he has. He gonna go crazy this year with the Jets.”

Evidently, Brown has seen Moore’s abilities first-hand. If the rookie makes good on his former teammate’s word, he would be the first wide receiver to win the award since Odell Beckham Jr. did so in 2014.

Robert Saleh calls Elijah Moore an old soul

The New York Jets head coach believes Moore is wise beyond his years. As the head coach and wide receiver each go through their first training camp with the Jets, Saleh believes Moore is already ahead of the curve.

“I was telling someone this morning, he’s an old soul,” Saleh said of Moore, via Jets.com. “He’s already ahead of the game in regards to how he studies, takes care of his body, the way he approaches practice, the way he approaches each rep.

“He’s impressive in the sense that we feel very confident that he’s going to find ways to get better. This game is very important to him and he shows it with his actions every day.”

Additionally, Saleh’s comments lend credence to Brown’s statement about Moore’s mindset. As the Jets were desperate for play-makers for what seems like forever, they’re grateful Moore fell into their lap.

While Moore has been making headlines at training camp, he unfortunately will have to wait to make some more. According to Saleh, Moore is likely going for an MRI as the team tries to evaluate how severe his quad injury is. Still, the team declined to rule him out of Saturday’s preseason game.

While the injury may be a setback, it’s better for the Jets to let the rookie rest now than make it worse. With the immense potential he’s showcased, it would be a shame for him to be hindered at all.

If he stays healthy, AJ Brown believes Elijah Moore can have a historic rookie season. If early returns are any indication, his prediction may be spot on.
