The East team took part in a two-session practice inside the Alamodome while the West’s was at Trinity University. On3 was on hand at both practices.
Several blue-chip quarterbacks are on hand in San Antonio. Here’s On3’s ranking of the quarterbacks after the first practice.
1. Austin Novosad – Oregon
Austin Novosad and Lincoln Kienholz were neck and neck Tuesday morning, but the Oregon signe pulled away as the West’s top quarterback during the afternoon session. His ability to push the ball downfield and layer passes during the 7-on-7 and team periods was top notch. Novosad was consistently accurate throughout the day and showed a quick release with excellent zip on the football. While he needs to get more comfortable when working out of the pocket, Novosad is a sniper with the ball in his hands when his feet are set. Novosad ranks as the No. 170 overall prospect in the On300. – Cody Bellaire
2. Dante Moore – UCLA
While East quarterbacks didn’t necessarily light it up through the air on Tuesday, Dante Moore was the best of the bunch. The UCLA signee was the sharpest quarterback in the Alamodome in Day One, showing his patented quick release. The ball came out Moore’s hand cleanly – he consistently threw a tight spiral in both practices. Moore also looked to have the best timing with the East wide receivers and had the most success in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods. Moore ranks as the No. 55 overall prospect in the On300. – Charles Power

3. Lincoln Kienholz – Ohio State
Lincoln Kienholz looked comfortable throughout Tuesday’s practice – which is notable as this was the first time he’s been in a national setting after playing his high school football in South Dakota. The speed of the game didn’t look too fast for the Buckeye pledge. Kienholz operated quickly, going through his reads and accurate and on time. He wavered a bit in driving the ball downfield at times, but did have the throw of the day rolling to his left and hitting Cordale Russell for a completion up the seam. Kienholz ranks as the No. 116 overall prospect in the On300. – Cody Bellaire
4. Aidan Chiles – Oregon State
This is our first opportunity to see Aidan Chiles in person. The Oregon State signee had a strong senior season, turning in the highest passer rating of all On300 signal callers. Chiles passes the eye test, with a big frame. Chiles was up and down over the course of Tuesday’s practices, but showed good arm strength and overall physical tools. He has longer arms and has to be cognizant of mechanics and tightening the throwing motion. When everything is organized, Chiles is capable of delivering some high-level passes. The SoCal native ranks as the No. 185 overall prospect in the On300.
5. Christopher Vizzina – Clemson
Christopher Vizzina had an up and down first day at the All-American Bowl. The Clemson signee’s physical tools are apparent. He has a big frame, strong arm and is a fluid mover. Vizzina wasn’t at his best in terms of spinning the football and being on time. One of the highlights for the Birmingham native came at the end of the end of the 7-on-7 period – Vizzina found Ohio State wide receiver signee Carnell Tate in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. Vizzina ranks as the No. 60 overall prospect in the On300.
6. Pierce Clarkson – Louisville
Pierce Clarkson displayed tight arm action and a quick release during the 7-on-7 and team periods in Tuesday’s practice. He struggled with deep ball accuracy throughout the day, but flashed good accuracy on the run on and on intermediate throws. Clarkson also showed solid pocket mobility during the team period. The Louisville signee got to show off his athleticism as he managed to scamper for a couple of first downs while he escaped pressure during the afternoon session. Clarkson ranks as a three-star prospect and as the No. 47 2023 quarterback per On3.
