The Cleveland Browns had a potential major injury happen to receiver Amari Cooper late in practice Monday during training camp. Cooper injured his ankle during a scramble drill, where he changed directions to get open for quarterback Deshaun Watson.

At the end of practice, coach Kevin Stefanski did not have an update on how serious the injury was — but Cooper was walking around under his own power after exiting drills.

According to a report by Cleveland.com’s Dan Labbe, Watson rolled out of the pocket during a scramble drill and Cooper went down with injury without contact. He remained on the ground immediately after his injury and was treated by the team’s trainers.

Cooper was seen walking around on the field behind the team afterwards without a noticeable limp, as detailed by Labbe.

A major offseason acquisition for the Browns, Cooper is set to be the team’s primary option at receiver this season as they handle the potential loss of their No. 1 quarterback. Watson and the Browns learned on Monday that his recommended suspension by a third-party was six games, far less than many speculated given the details of his pending lawsuits.

With Watson missing the beginning of the season, his time in training camp will be crucial for building an on-field relationship with his offensive weapons — meaning a potential camp injury to Cooper could be a major setback.

“I haven’t gotten the full report. I’ll update you guys tomorrow,” said Browns’ coach Kevin Stefanski after practice.

Cooper was picked up by the Browns via trade with the Dallas Cowboys, as Cleveland was able to gain the four-time Pro Bowler for only a fifth-round draft pick and a sixth-round pick swap. Now the Browns are facing issues with their depth at the receiver position, as rookie David Bell battles a foot injury and undrafted rookie Isaiah Weston was recently waived with an injury designation.
