WATCH: Cardinals quarterback Colt McCoy connects with James Connor for touchdown
An important NFC West showdown between the Arizona Cardinals and San Fransisco 49ers took place without one of the league’s young stars in Kyler Murray. He was ruled inactive an hour and a half before kickoff.
Stepping in as the Cardinals’ starting quarterback was former Texas quarterback and veteran Colt McCoy.
On their opening possession of the second half, McCoy connected with running back James Connor on a screen pass. Just getting the pass over the finger tips of Joey Bosa, Connor did the rest of the work, reversing field and scoring the 45-yard touchdown.
The score put Arizona up 24-7, teetering on blowing out their division rivals. You can watch the full play here.
McCoy has appeared in three games this season for a total of 14 snaps. The last time he started an NFL game was in 2020, replacing an injured Daniel Jones for the New York Giants.

Cardinals QBs prank McCoy
Before the season began, the Arizona quarterback room decided to play a prank on McCoy. They requested a Cameo from the former Texas quarterback under the alias Buddy. In reality, it was for Murray, celebrating his birthday.
“I wanted to reach out and tell you happy birthday, man,” McCoy said in the Cameo message. “I know you’re a quarterback, too, love the Longhorns. I just want to wish you good luck in training camp. Stay humble this season. Stay great. Be a leader. And, most importantly, today, enjoy your birthday, man. It’s special. God bless. See ya.”
According to ESPN, McCoy denied the initial request. However, once he was offered double the money of the originally asked price, he accepted. As you can tell from the video, everybody in the quarterback room, especially McCoy, loved it.
