As a new high school season starts, it comes time for a 2026 On3 150 ranking update
On Monday, On3 updated its class of 2026 player rankings for the fourth time. This is the second update for the 2026 class to have a full 150 players. The movement and additions are based on 1) in-person player evaluations from the high school season and 2) film study and intel gathered on prospects since the initial update.
Updated 2026 On3 150 player rankings
Since the last update in July, the On3 team has attended July’s live period travel ball events, elite player camps, and high school practices, scrimmages, and jamboree. With multiple showcases taking place every week(end), On3 has also collected streams and film to comb through the maximum exposure of countless events and players.
The ranking process is a continual and often fluid one. On3 starts ranking recruits after their freshman-year travel seasons, prior to their sophomore years of high school. Each recruit can look a lot different for our final ranking after their senior year championships and all-star games are played.
We have spent the last several weeks working on this 2026 update, so it will reflect the most accurate and current representation of the recruiting cycle. This work has resulted in 20 players making their debuts in the expanded On3 150. We have also continued collecting viewings and data on the previously ranked players, putting eyes on them since the previous update.
These prospects have completed their sophomore high school seasons and the spring portion of their travel seasons. Our next class update for 2026 will come prior to the start of their junior high school seasons.
The goal of rankings at On3 is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential. As we continue forward, a player’s performance on the court and their continued growth will outweigh the earlier rankings. Again, every player’s arc is different, and each ranking is a snapshot in time.
Here are some storylines from On3’s first update of the 2026 recruiting cycle.
Grading the 2026 On3 100
The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, and 80-89 grades are for three stars.
The first four prospects are five starts with a rating of 98 or higher. The players ranked No. 5 to 110 are classified as four-star prospects with grades from 90-97. The remainder of the 100 and position rankings are considered three-star prospects.
Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential, ultimately manifested by the NBA Draft. The goal of the ranking is not to assess who had the best high school career or who will be the best college player. This is why we will shoot to end each cycle with 14 five-star prospects, following the lead of the NBA Draft Lottery. Our vision, as we end each cycle is draft night.
Brandon McCoy holds on to No. 1 ranking
This is the third update that saw Brandon McCoy hold serve with the No. 1 overall ranking in the 2026 class. This discussion continues to remain close as No. 2 ranked Tyran Stokes had another notable summer both on Nike’s EYBL Circuit and with USA Basketball. A powerfully built 6-foot-7 forward, Stokes makes the highlight plays and is rounding out his ball skills. This discussion took some time to make as these two players have elevated themselves into a tier of their own at this point in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
At the end of the day, the translatable presence of McCoy was simply too hard to move out of the top spot. McCoy has established himself, at this point in the cycle, as the top perimeter defensive player in the class. He uses his long arms and twitchy athleticism, along with his “want-to” to defend opposing ball-handlers for 94 feet. He is equally as comfortable guarding on the ball as he is off the ball and switching throughout the course of a possession.
McCoy is a point-of-attack guard, meaning he penetrates the defense with the ball in his hands, creating an offensive advantage as he touches the paint and he guards the ball when the opposing team has possession.
McCoy, a 6-foot-5 guard, is coming off a summer that saw him average 17.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals while playing up in age for the Arizona Unity program during Nike’s Peach Jam. He was also the youngest starter for the USA Basketball U17 team in the FIBA World Cup. McCoy averaged 10.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. McCoy’s 3.4 steals per game finished second overall in the competition.
While McCoy might not be a traditional point guard or a traditional two-guard, his ability to disrupt play and create opportunity at the point of attack has proven to be extremely valuable in today’s game. With his continued growth as a player, his projected archetype as a player, and his production amongst his peers McCoy remains at the top of this list for the most recent update.

Alijah Arenas new five-star status
The first update of the full 2026 On3 150 ranking list, the fourth overall update, saw us expand the five-star ratings from three to four players. The previous three five-star rated prospects, Brandon McCoy, Tyran Stokes, and Caleb Holt each kept their stars intact. With them joined shooting guard Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas.
Arenas’ rise in the recent update was not a significant one as he jumped from No. 6 to No. 3 overall. The 6-foot-5 junior’s showing this summer was too much to ignore in adding his fifth star beside his name. In July, playing up at the 17u level with the Compton Magic program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, he averaged 21.4 points on 48.0 percent shooting from three on 4.1 attempts per game. Per Synergy, Arenas averaged 1.016 points per possession in helping lead his team to the Circuit’s Final Four.
Arenas, while missing some time this summer with injury, also had a strong showing at the USA Basketball U17 Training Camp. While he ultimately did not make the team, he was one of the final players cut, showcasing some impressive scoring chops at multiple levels along the way. The Chatsworth (CA) High guard has a developed scoring acumen with the requisite positional size as he continues to move forward in level.
