Brandon Staley announces Chargers DE Joey Bosa will have surgery, be placed on IR
Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa will have surgery after suffering a groin injury Sunday against Jacksonville, coach Brandon Staley announced. The expectation is that he will return later this season, though he will miss at least four games per the NFL’s injured reserve rule.
An Ohio State product, Bosa has been one of the premier pass rushers in the league since being selected by the Chargers with the third overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. In his seventh season with Los Angeles, Bosa has accumulated 59.5 sacks over his career and named to the Pro Bowl four times. Prior to his injury this season, he had seven tackles to go along with 1.5 sacks.
Bosa is the latest Chargers player to receive unfortunate injury news. Receiver Jalen Guyton tore his ACL on Sunday, while left tackle Rashawn Slater is out for the season with a ruptured bicep. Quarterback Justin Herbert was also dealing with a rib injury following Week 2, but thankfully was healthy enough to play Sunday.

More on the injury to Chargers DE Joey Bosa
Former Ohio State star Joey Bosa left the game in the first quarter against Jacksonville, heading to the locker room for further examination. Bosa appeared to hurt himself while pass rushing, remaining down on the field in obvious pain while trainers checked on him.
Bosa entered the injury tent on the sidelines, finally emerging after some time and walking into the locker room under his own power with a noticeable limp. The exact injury was not immediately clear, but Bosa was seen holding his leg in pain as he walked into the locker room.
